Ornate iron decoration??

Found in Iowa, date stamped on back says 1836..no broken off parts or anything missing. #'s 753 and very faint 641 above date..any ideas?? or where to find info???? Driving me nuts!!!!!!

Looks like what they used to set hot pans on off the stove. My grandma used to use them.

Well I thought that too, but there really isn't anything to hold it up...Iron trivets usually have some kind of legs.
