Out looking for silver again (part two.)

I was prowling around the board on another detector brand's forum and noticed a few of out old regulars using other machines. One wrote that he rarely found silver with his Garrett and now he finds quite a bit more. I read a few weeks worth of posts on several boards and got a few tips. I had to go out and try for at least one silver coin for the day. I put the 12.5 incher on my 2500 and headed out to a nearby park. Why haven't I been using this coil more? It detects very deep. At depths greater than 6 inches target ID and depth estimates are way off. Imaging is accurate thought. The soil was very moist and I had found silver there in the past. Third target was the 1931 Merc in super nice nick! 10 inches deep! Indicated as a zinc cent, size B, two inches, but a very soft signal when pinpointing. This is very good indication of a deep, coin sized object. The dime was not in my flap or within range of my Propointer so down I dug.

A few targets later I scored a very cool 1930s Pie Eating Club pin. I found one for sale for 150 bucks! Mine is pretty beat up, though.

Totally awesome, dude!:super:Congrats on the silver!:cheers:You're on a roll!:wiggle:Happy Hunting!:)

Nice little Merc!
Yeah. I haven't been pulling silver out with my Garrett's either, mostly 'cause I haven't been hunting them, but I'm hoping to pop some out real soon. I have found a few copper pennies over the last week and scored an 18k golgd plated ring today, so I'm getting close.

That Merc is in nice shape and the pin is a real keeper too. I love using the big coil, I only hope that one day I will be as proficient with it as you are.

Your post got me to thinking. My last two silver coins, both of which are real beauties, came from sites less than half a mile from my house with a coil I rarely use. I have been thinking about a new detector and now realize that all I needed was to refocus a bit. I wanted more silver coins, I changed my technique, I changed my site selection, I changed my coil, and I got more silver coins. I think I found 7 in roughly a week when I had only found a dozen in the previous 4 months. I will never be the type of hunter who goes out for 8 hours and digs a hundred or so square nails and 10 or 12 silver coins but I do enjoy an hour or two of silver coin hunting from time to time. Now how can I find more gold rings?

Chris

That's the beauty of this hobby, it has so many different facets and you're free to mix and match as please. A little silver hunting from time to time not only gives your back and knees a break but also gives those clad haunts a chance to reload. As for gold rings rings you'd be better off taking some tips from John B. He's been on a hot streak lately.
