Outlaw problem

I have had my Outlaw for a few months now. It seemed to be working great. The other day I hit up an old park hoping for some silver. I found tons of surface items but nothing over about 4". I used it at the lake today and it seems to only hit on the close stuff. I found 2 quarters no more than 5" deep that barely registered. I decided to air test when I got home and it is only getting 4" on a silver dime. New battery with same result. 8" coil. Could some of you other Outlaw users do an air test with a silver dime and post the result? Wondering if I need to send it in for a checkup?

Hey machineman. I get almost exactly the same results when I air-test and it makes me think maybe I am doing something wrong based on what I've read here.
Still working it and hoping it is just a setting issue.

machineman,

I don't put much stock into 'airtests'...... but take the Outlaw outside away from EMI that could be causing problems testing in or around the house. I have a Bandido ll

I think I sent you and email. Here is what I said to do.

Is your threshold turned all the way down? If it is, that will effect your depth in half. You do not need to turn it up all the way but it does need to be turned a little.
Also, try this in an air test. Turn your ground adjust 4 turns clockwise then 3 turns counter clockwise. Then try your air test with the dime. If you don't see an increase in depth, then send it in. If you are getting the dime at about 7", then the problem is the ground balance is too positive. This will cut your depth in half if you are too positive on your ground balance.
Here is a rule of thumb. Too positive, you loose silver, too negative, you pick up minerals or hot rocks.

Allcav, i am a proud owner of an Outlaw too. Can you tell me if there is the typical offset between discr and all metal, as the older models?
Thank You.

When you switch it from all metal to disc, it does move the ground balance a smidge pos from where it was in the all metal mode!
