I owned the fisher f2 got good depth it ran quiet. Looking at the fisher f5 I get one brand new for 372 shipped. I'm guessing the if I did good with the f2, the sky is the limit with the F5. I hit a wheat at 8 inches on a faint signal with the f2. It's a toss up between the f5 and the at pro
I know a guy that loved the F2 and upgraded to the F5 on my recommendation.
He had a bit of trouble at first, the huge amount of settings and the learning curve was kicking his butt...he told me at week 2 he was ready to throw this thing into the next lake he passed by.
I told him to hang in there...that "aha" moment will come soon enough when he will finally get it together and a few hunts later it did.
Now he has been using it for the last couple of years, loves it and has found great things.
He also still pulls out the F2 once in awhile, too.
I considered upgrading to the F5 myself but I got a fire-sale price on brand new F70 and I am thrilled with what I am able to do with it compared to the F2...and I found an uncanny amount of great and amazing things with my F2.
I figure for all of us why spend time learning the fisher F series language if you can't use it when you switch detectors?
That language is similar and shared among all the F series line and once learned can be used as a base, just more to learn about settings when you upgrade from the F2.
A ton of fun learning that extra part of the language, too.
Something to consider.
