Past Three Hunts

pilot

New member
I have been pretty lucky lately. Hunt 1 = Mercury Dime Hunt 2 = Another Mercury Dime Hunt 3 = Old Army Button and 1947 Canadian.

The Mercury Dimes were both found right next to sidewalks within one sweep length and the Army button and Canadian 1 cent were both found at an abandoned country school dating back to pre WWII

Both dimes were marginal signals first detected by my ear in All Metal mode just walking the sidewalk with the detector at my side not even sweeping. The button and Canadian 1 cent were a lot harder becuase of the tall grass and weeds, branches etc.

I am really pleased with the 705 and 10x5 DD coil. Not even sure I need the 6" after all.

Nice Finds Pilot! Do you hunt sidewalks in any particular place? Park?, Playground?, etc??? I am a believer in sidewalk hunts since I found my 1899 Barber Quarter on the edge of a sidewalk in a grass park.

These are just quick lunchtime hunts, but all I do is just drive around town and look for old streets and old looking sidewalks. I'll park and walk slowly with the detector on one side of the sidewalk for a block, then turn around and walk the other side. If I find anything I'll sweep the immediate area for extras and then continue. I find a lot of clad this way also. I typically don't dig the shallow pennies on these lunchtime hunts, concentrating instead on silver ID's. I have found half my silver coins right next to sidewalks.

Congrats on the finds pilot

I am using same coil. What numbers are you hitting on the machine when you sweep over the dimes or small silver.? I notice my Mexican made silver rings bounce around a bunch more than the standard clad when I air test. I have yet to find silver with my machine. Seeing my rings bounce is making me wonder if I might be passing some silver up. Rings all say .925 but who knows with the Mexican silver is what I have been told.

Badbaja...I am running a pretty high sensitivity 22-28 which tends to raise the numbers a notch. Silver dimes usually register 38-40 and silver quarters are 42-44. Haven't found any gold or silver jewelry yet. I have air tested some gold rings and the numbers will bounce a bit depending on the orientation. 22-24 on my 14k gold wedding band.
Hope this helps!
