I feel fortunate that we don't have too many people like this in our hobby. Here is a link to a guy on a White's forum that is all full of himself and putting people down about thier inability to hunt as well as him. He was finding CLAD! I felt the need to respond and take him down a few notches. It's great that people like this are the exception and not the rule in our hobby. Most people will go out of their way to help another THer out.

Jeeeeeez guys, lighten up! First of all, as I stated in an earlier post, Vegas doesn't HAVE old coins. If the guy is going to a playground, chances are it was built no more than 10 years ago. All he can hunt is clad. If you were on a fishing forum, would you poke fun at him because he showed how he could fish to limit with crappie, and he's not a "real" fisherman because you live near the ocean and can catch marlin? No, because the guy would be proud of having gained the skills necessary to FISH. This guy is proud of his ability to use his machine in the conditions he has available to him.
I own and use an Explorer, but my point is that here in Vegas, I don't care WHAT machine you bring, if it ain't in the ground, you ain't finding it!
If you want to promote the hobby, then you embrace whatever finds that are made. I admit that finding clad isn't my idea of having fun, but who are we to judge?
Oh and BTW, if you are really good with a GP3000 or the like, you CAN go out in this state and find real gold. Maybe all the gold prospectors should have a belly laugh of you struggling out in the cold (or sitting in your houses during the winter) while they are out in 70 degree weather getting REAL treasure!

Who's more condescending? He says "people who should not own detectors in the first place", "If this still cast doubts in the mindless few that will always be pesimestic" and "I will hold your hand and show how and "WHERE" it is done". Calling people mindless and saying they shouldn't even have detectors has no place in this, or any other, hobby. As I said, I am glad that the guys I have met in this hobby are not this way at all, and in fact will go out of their way to help a newer guy out...not put him down. I see you are also from Vegas, maybe there's something in the water.

I don't wanna get into some "#####ing contest" about it but let me clarify my thinking. 1. I don't know this "Doug" guy, but after going over to the forum and looking at some of his posts, he seems to be the same self styled "expert" that you see on lots of forums (this one included). I can't look in the guys mind and tell you what he was thinking, nor will I take things out of context to "prove" that I'm right.
My whole point is simply this: infighting between detectorists isn't gonna help the big picture. Scroll down and look at the NJ law passed. The whole thread here regarding the Doug guy relates to him being proud of getting a bunch of clad coins and you can run around the issue as much as you like if it makes you feel superior.
As a former employee of Minelab, I used to browse the forums to keep up to date on things. You can do subtle things to make your point. One of the funniest things was going to the White's Forum and seeing a string of pictures that brian had posted. In one frame was obviously an Explorer in the foreground! We laughed at that one.
The ones that really ruin the hobby aren't the "doug's" of the world, heck the guy isn't leaving gaping holes in parks, cutting fences to get on private land or anything like that. Those type of people are the ones that ruin everything.
Live and let live.
Peace and happiness to all during this holiday season
and....

ummm...by and large Las Vegas as you see it wasn't started until the Flamingo was built in the 40's. I would like to see you on the casino properties detecting <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> Yes there was an old settlement in the downtown section. That is all paved over now. It is totally different to the areas where I see good finds being made.I lived back east and know about farmhouses, rural areas and the like.
If you would care to show me where this section of property is that contains wheat pennies and silver is in Las Vegas, I'd be ever so grateful. So, exactly where is this section of town that you in WI know about?
