PI classroom

I think It is no more a PI classroom , it is in reality the front store to sell the goldquest and aquastar, please break or change the course of your mind money oriented selling detector.......Alex

The next time you decide to make a stupid comment, do your homework first. Read the forum!

You can learn alot about PI detectors reading the things that are written about these units (like the SAT stuff, etc.) and from the users of these units which would effect the initial approach to any design.
Besides its not like this is some huge company, and these guys get small compensation for all the effort they put into the units and this forum.
So I for one do not mind any "selling" (if that is what you believe it is) or talking about these units. As long as it is done by some of the major "contributors" to the forum and their friends. Alot of information has been freely given and not many would do this. So like all the other free stuff on the net, even if you have to look at (or ignore it and you can ignore it by the way) an ad every once and a while, big deal. These guys got to eat too.

I am not a tect person but have world's of respect for people who do... I have personally noticed that the world of electronics seems to be racing ahead at lightning speed but in truth new circuits, new products that produce new ideas all take time and input from the users to advance the whole process and in fact there are many days and nights that there is nothing earth shattering 'new to reveal'. What we have at the moment or week must be the topic of discussion and much must be shared by all to advance. Facts are I am a person who has owned most all of the "latest/greatest" detectors on the market (except the Aquastar) and I have found that discussing the Aquastar and Goldquest is the only topic that many new events in detecting can be discussed...If the designer and the seller of these fine units sell thousands of them, I will personally be pleased for them as they have advanced the hobby.....and my personal days of finding pleasure out in the fields and beaches. Without their abilities and us supporting their talents, they could not continue to stay in business and we would not have the pleasure of using some of the finest detectors made. Do you really think Alex these people who design and sell these detectors would be here if they could not support their families by selling these products? We the end users really get the best of it...
Everyday is a opportunity to learn something new...to have any other attitude is to no longer advance your personal education.
I use the "search" option all the time to find out what I need to fill in the things I do not know... This forum is the only one I know that has the answers... Thank goodness for all the input from all the talented people who post of this forum. Frank Hamill

I for one have learnt almost everything "PI" from this forum. My moderate level of understanding in this field is due to the input and information provided by others (maybe once, you were one of them, but I doubt it).
If you read this forum with some degree of intelligence, you will soon come to the staggering realisation that almost all comments regarding certain detectors originate from extremely happy customers who find it hard to curb their enthusiasm. If glowing praises are a result of this and you don't like it, then I suggest you log on elsewhere. The great thing about forums is you can pick out the bits you like whilst ignoring the rest.
What astounds me even more than your @#*!$@ comment is the forum readers superhuman politeness and tolerance in responding to it the way they did...comprende <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

Alex,
It is hard to have a classroom without reference to products. What products do I know best? The answer is obvious. However, when questions arise on other manufacturers PI detectors, I try to answer them fairly and without bias.
In the recent long discussions that we had on amplifier noise, the board that I used for testing IC

I am guilty of some of the Goldquest posts but only because I find it an excellent machine at a very good price.
Any inbalance in postings here only occurs as a new machine arrives on the market when people naturally want to ask questions or because of a lack of questions re other machines though in the average month C-Scope/Newforce,Detector Pro,Garrett,J.W.Fisher,Whites etc all appear.
If you don't like the posts then contribute some of your own as long as they are related to Pulse Induction in some way.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.Since I bought the Goldquest, obviously I'm very enthusiastic about it. I love my detector and I hope you enjoy the detector you bought as much as I enjoy mine.

Hi Alex,
I am sorry your feel the way you do and I guess if you just read a few posts, you might come to the conclusion you did.
However, I have been frequenting this forum for quite a while now, and I can say, from a technical standpoint, it is one of the most informative forums I have frequented.
There are two forums I know of where the design engineer of a product has shared many of his technical secrets and this is one of them. It is the only one I know of specifically aimed at PI's.
There have also been some super posts by many great engineers that can really help a person, especially one with a technical background, better understand just what is going on inside a PI. I can say that because of these posts, I truly have learned a lot about how a PI works as well as how to improve one.
As for improvements to a design of a PI, one can just read past posts as well as wait because new and innovative information will be posted.
In almost every case except Eric Foster, engineers and companies, who design and build new metal detectors, keep almost all the information about their design a secret. To me, this is stupid. Any competitor, or individual for that matter, can reverse engineer a design and see what makes it tick.
In Eric's case, he is upfront with his information. He has provided even the basic information such as his preferred type of coil shielding material and even offered to sell small quantities to those persons interested in trying to build their own coils. It is little things like this information that really helps someone like me who wants to experiment with their machines.
From a more technical standpoint, I was both impressed and thankful that Eric took the time to compare different ICs and then post the results a few days ago. Such information is quite valuable to those thinking about building their own detectors.
Also, is the only forum dedicated to metal detectors I have visited that isn't slamming others detectors one way or another.
Like I said before, if you want to know about PI's and how they work then this is the forum to read. The technical information is there and I am sure more will be posted.
I also want to thank Eric and Mr. Bill for providing this forum and all the information they have posted.

It was on this site that I found that I could get my White's PI modified to improve it's performance. The modification was done by none other than Mr. Bill. That's right, the same one that is the distributor for the Goldquest and other Eric Foster designed detectors. I have never read in any post by Mr. Bill or Eric that said that Eric's detectors are the best. Their honest answers to any questions that I have had in the past have only confirmed that they are interested in helping others do the best possible with what ever detector they may have. It is the buyers of Eric's detectors that have done all the bragging about the machines. I can think of no better place to get information on a product that I may purchase in the future than directly from somebody that went out and spent their hard earn cash for the item. If they're not happy, you'll hear about it. If they are happy with it and it meets or exceeds their expectations, then I want to hear that too.
I just bought another detector from Mr. Bill at Surfscanner and you know what? It wasn't even a PI. A PI wasn't what I needed to round out my arsinal at the time, and no one tried to talk me into it. I can tell you that my next detector purchase will be one of Eric's designs. True, If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't know about the Goldquest but I also wouldn't have known what the users were saying about them, and I wouldn't have met some great guys to do business with. I guess I could sum this all up by saying that I'm a guy that likes to use the best equipment I can possibly afford, and I do my homework first to insure that I'm happy with my purchase. If I didn't really care, I'd be over on the Radio Shack, Bounty Hunter Forum :).

Hi Alex,
I am the perfect example of why you are completely wrong. I have been visiting Eric's forum since his original forum and then to this PI classroom forum. I have learned enough here from Eric to be able to build my own PI detector. If all that was being done here was selling their products, I would not have gained enough knowledge to be able to do that. BTW, I bought a Deepstar as well. It beats the other 4 PI detectors I have out of the water for depth. I'm glad they told me about it.
Thanks,
FJ
