I have never used a PI detector, but does any of the PI detectors have a discrimination and will they work in trash .

... and will they work in trash
Yup, they work quite well in trash... they'll find every bit of it! Seriously, PI's are fantastic for wet salt beaches, surf, etc, where trash is sparse and digging is easy. Also good for nugget hunting.
No current PI model has discrimination, like the disc on VLF machines. So they would not be a good choice for high-trash areas.
