PI question for Reg.

Frank-S

New member
Reg, White TDI pro and white TDI- SL PI
Will they both discriminate and witch one does it best
in your opeanion. Thanks
Frank.

Hi Frank,

The question as to whether the TDI series discriminates has been debated with advocates from both sides. Will the TDI allow the operator eliminate iron objects while still finding silver and copper coins, the answer is yes. Will the TDI series allow the operator eliminate much of the iron junk while still finding some gold objects such as small nuggets and some gold rings, again the answer is yes.

As to which will do the best between the TDI and the SL, the answer is they should both work basically the same. The TDI and SL circuitry is extremely close in design and as such should show a lot of similarities. The big difference is the SL has some special noise reduction circuitry that reduces the threshold noise commonly heard in the TDI.

Reg, thanks I am thinking about getting a white SL PI for the salt water beach here, years ago
when the Garrett Infinium pi first came out i got one, it did-ent work very good here on salt
wet sand,i sen it in to garrett for a mod-improvement.Dident help on beach here, was fair
on gold inland.
If I a get SL, will a larger minelab coil work on the SL are the coil connector the same.
I will be looking for a light coil around 16'' or 17''. what doyou recomend. Thanks
Frank.

As i understand it coils from the Minelab Pulse range will fit straight onto the TDI range of detector without any alterations what so ever and the coil plug is a diirect fit,but Whites TDI coil will not work on the Minelab range, not sure the exact reason why but it is common knowledge.

The Nugget Finder coils are really good and the 16'' range are light and very well built, very popular brand name of coils.

Hi Frank,

My recommendation would be to use the factory coil initially until you really know the detector and what each control will do for you and why. If you are not going to be using the detector for hunting really small gold, then maybe a 12" mono might be a good choice. You can always get a different coil later. Personally, I don't recommend larger coils so you would have to select one by yourself.

Take time to really get to know the detector and how it works before spending more money for coils. If the area allows the use of no GB, then experiment with that mode also. Many beaches will allow this mode.
