Picked up the new Explorer today WOOHOO!!!

We're lucky that we live here in Adelaide and were able to stop by the factory and have a chat with a rep and have a look around, before driving around the corner to the local distributor. He had just gotten another one in and was arriving back to his store just as we got there. (I think he was picking it up at the factory the same time we were there!) I have spent the rest of the afternoon going through the owners manual and looking it over. I've been reading lots of the posts on here for quite some time and checking out any other reviews, etc. I could find. It seems some people find it too complicated to use and too many adjustments. I've been a computer programmer since 1979, and maybe that helps, but it all seems very logical to me and makes perfect sense. Now, I can't wait to get out there and start re-discovering all the areas we had "cleaned out" with our Garretts. It will be interesting to see what we missed. Time will tell.
We actually discovered an old park near where we live and last week found our oldest coin yet - a 1797 One Penny "Cartwheel". The Garrett 2500 picked it up in near perfect conditions - nice grass covering soft sandy loam. About 6" deep. We didn't get to spend much time there, so I'm very anxious to get back and hit it with the Explorer. The area has been populated since the 1830s and the church across the street was built around 1840.
This is definitely a different beast than the green one, and it will be fun doing lots of comparisons (and finding lots more deep (old) stuff).
Stay tuned for further updates!!!

I'm also a computer programmer and you will like this Explorer gadget. Here's a link to some Explorer tips in case you are interested.

Already been there and added it to my favorites. I'm currently building a sort-of library of different setups some of the other more-experienced users on here (and the Explorer classroom forum) have mentioned in the past. Just can't wait to get out there and start trying it out. I think I'll keep it at the factory pre-sets for a little while until the sounds start sounding like targets/non-targets vs. someone trying to tune a clarinet. hehe. This is gonna be fun!

really great time Toby with this detector. The parks that you've hunted in the past with a garrets may have been cleaned out or may have not. I think you'll get a pleasant surprise when you use the Explorer in those same parks and any new ones over there in Adelaide. I did the same thing over here in Perth in the late seventies and over the years with my old garrets(Ground Hog, ADS Deepseeker and Scorpion). Realised that there is really no comparison when it comes to this detector over many others of the old and some of the new style. Those old detectors are still good, to an extent and I still have respect that they found a lot of buried treasures and are even still regarded as capable of finding alluvial gold in the harsh Aussie ground conditions, but they are big clumsy boxes that have reached their use by date and are limited to what and how they can detect.

I, as many others, have found the Explorer is just so different in the way it lets you set up and find buried metal objects in areas that would be just a little bit over bearing and maybe put you office trying to find the good stuff amongst the junk.

Experiment with the differing set ups and get around the forums that deal with the Explorer to gain more on how to actually do that. It really just needs time and patience when you move away from the default setup and into your own programing.

Word of warning, if your not careful you just might make detecting with the Explorer a priority in your life.........above all else. Please consult the manual in the section that helps you deal with that(just kidding , there isn't one. You'll have to work that one out yourself):)

Looking forward to hearing from you and see your posts.

bye

Now you are going to see the POWER OF THE EXPLORER put to use. You thought you had a great detector before, it is going to be hard to believe your eyes when you start digging a lot of old Coins and such. The Garrett detectors are pretty good but there is no comparison up against the ALMIGHTY EXPLORER!!! I wish you the best of luck and congrat's on your CARTWHEEL PENNY you found already. HH.
