Picking up the 15inch tommorrow.

Picking up my 15inch coiltek coil from Judy at Goanna detectors tommorrow. Will be on Newcastle beach within the hr.
Let you know how it goes.
PS: My wife is bringing her new AT Pro along as well. Should I give her a headstart? :starwars:
Not likely.
Gary.

Can I play with it Gary? Enjoy Newcastle. plewnty of rich pickings down there.
Mick Evans.
P.S. Did you hunt the circus site?

Hi Mick,
yes I picked up about $30 from the circus. Surprisingly though, all targets were about 4inches down - I didn't find 1 surface item for the 2 hrs I was there. What I did find though, to my dissapointment, was a lot of unfilled holes with bottletops next to them...I don't know if it was from the circus crew or one of the locals.
On the other side of the coin - I called into Goanna Metal Detectors & picked up the 15inch Coiltek coil for $295. It was great to catch up with Judy again & find out what's been happening in the salt/spray area. Unfortunately I arrived at the beach in the middle of the rain that followed me from Dubbo. During the 3/4 hrs that I did get in, I picked up a 8ct Rose Gold ring, several keys & about $37 in coins. Most of the coins will need to spend some time in the tumbling machine as they are badly corroded.
I'm looking forward to tommorrow ( if Sharon releases me for the day)
So far I am MORE THAN IMPRESSED with the 15 inch Coiltek. It is by far, a much better coil for deep beach work. I was digging 5 cent pieces at 14 inches with the only negative being that it was also detecting the stainless steel sandscoop at 3ft if I held it near the front of me. I would definately recommend one to any serious X-Terra operator who is doing beach work. Oh! If only the X-Terra was waterproof like the ATGold machine.... maybe in the future.
Regards to all.
Gary.

HI GARY MY NAME IS JOE FROM THE P.S. CALIFORNIA ,I ALSO BOUGHT THE 15 INCH COILTEK , AND NEED SOME HELP WHAT SETTINGS OR PATTERN WERE YOU USING THANK YOU GARYIM AT joeperezindio@aol.com

It's quite disturbing that whoever detected there didn't back fill their holes. I really hope that it was an out of towner! That will get detecting banned if it continues. It sounds like that park could use a good going over. That was the same spot that the John Farnam concerts were held a few years ago, plus the occasional other circus's that pass through town. I'll see if I can break in my 3kHz coil down there over the week end.
You did pretty good at the beach considering the time of year it is. I hunted 3 of them about this time of year, several years back, when I looked at moving down there. I only found $4. The ring would have brought a smile to your dial when it came out. Hitting a 5c piece at 14inches! Wow. They give a weak signal at the best of times. You might have to get yourself a plastic sand scoop to overcome your new difficulty.:poke:
I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Judy yet, but have met Bob. He's very friendly and helpful. It'd been a couple of years since I've dropped in there. (The 300kms of separation tends to do that.)
I hope the trip goes well on all counts and wish I could be there with you both swinging a detector.
All the best.
Mick Evans.

Hi Joe,
I have posted some info on my blog regarding the settings & some pictures.
I definately wouldn't like to be using this coil in a trashy park as the multiple targets under the coil would probably drive you crazy.
If you are new to the X-Terra, may I suggest reading the E-Book listed at the start of the forum.
Best of luck,
Gary.
