Pin Pointer

What is the best type of pointer to use when Metal Detecting. I have a GP Extreme and a Explorer II and I hate trying to pin point when using the larger coils. After detecting for 3-5 hours I feel like I have dug a pit for a pool. I like to use the larger Coiltek Coils but a backhoe is not cost effective. I would appreciate any help on the information. I would just like input on all brands. Something on the side of the belt or easy to handle while carrying all the gear. Thanks Pogo

Sun Ray X-1 probe, love mine and saves digging time and damage to any recoveries. <img src="/metal/html/super.gif" border=0 width=26 height=28 alt=":super">

Definitely the Sunray in-line probe for the Explorer...if not that, then I'm partial to the Vibraprobe due to its durability and length.

No contest.
For all detectors the uniprobe pocket version. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
For the Explorer and sovereign and Whites you can also use the Sunray. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

would like to add the treasure mate. Lifetime warranty and the sucker goes deep. Have the option of vibration or tone.

My feelings exactly, best $$$ I ever spent on a probe and I've owned several.

If my explorer was the only detector that I have, I would buy the X-1, still might buy one anyway. Right now I use the Treasure Mate, because I use more than one detector and it works great, lifetime warranty. When I start hunting I have to turn on my Treasure Mate and hit the noise cancle button on my explorer, or else they will sing a duet.
If you are using the GP and the Explorer then it sounds like you are in high minerialized ground, either of the three will work. TB

SunRay X-1, Takes some getting used to, as it has a broad detection feild, but it does a good job with practice. Other handheld probes are good, but its something else you have to tote in your ditty bag, but they are good back ups.

I have used both the Sunray and the Uniprobe. I had two Sovereigns and switched the Sunray between them. When I sold the Sovereigns for an Explorer I had to sell the Sunray as well because the Sovereign model did not adapt to the Explorer.
Now I have the regular Uniprobe so if I get another brand detector I can use it as well. The Sunray is nice but do you really want to get the Sunray for your Explorer and another pinpointer for your GP?
Build quality on the Uniprobe is exemplary. You can use it with as many detectors as you would like. I keep the probe tucked into a holder on my belt and it never gets in the way. Also it is much easier to keep dust and dirt out of the switch pots of the Uniprobe than the Sunray. The only downside is the Uniprobe is expensive, but in my book it's a very good value and I wouldn't hesitate to make the purchase again.
