pin pointing issues

I recently went to the 10.5 " 7.5KHZ. DD coil on my 705,sometimes when I pinpoint my targets , the target is not ware it pin points at I'm off as much as 3"s some times.
I'v tried to move around the target and pinpoint from different sides of the target sometimes I hit it dead on and other times I'm way off. I have a garret ace 250 and the DD coils I use on it seem to pinpoint right on,I just wiggle the coil while moving the coil strait back towards me and when the signal stops the target is right under the tip.
Not so with the 705 ,I'm using the pinpoint feature and digging just under the tip of the coil. This seems to happen more on targets over 5"s or so does the targets change that much with more depth?
I'm finding good stuff and can always locate the target
But seems like I have to make a bigger hole to locate it.
Any tips or suggestions?

I disagree. I use the wiggle back method with the 10.5 with almost 100% accuracy. Perhaps there are other targets close by that are throwing you off.

I have the same exact problem as you rs, it doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to be irritating. I've tried X-ing, the wiggle method, you name it and nothing seems to work all the time. The larger DD coils are noted for being harder to pinpoint and like mentioned there may be adjacent targets throwing off our pinpointing (being a coin shooter I'm often hitting on close to a half dozen targets per sweep). Suspect that the angle of the target compared to that of the surface and the depth of the target also contribute to our problems. The Pro-Pointer is a big help to me when pin-pointing, but even it is only good for locating shallow targets if coin size.

Make sure your coil is level to the ground, if it's at any angle other than level it throws off your pin pointing (example the tip is pointed up, the object will be further in front of the coil)

I agree with these three replies all seem valid, I have a 10x14 excellerator coil on my 250 and never had a pinpointing issues , it was dead on every time using the wiggle method
I never had to use the pin pointing feature with it.
Chuckciao stated it works for him,But I'm wondering just ware ware does it pinpoint at the tip or just under the very edge of the tip.
And as MTNMN pointed out it's not every time just some times.
I would like to get to ware I don't have to use the pinpointing feature.
I will watch the angle of the coil , And most of the time I don't think it is an adjacent object but that is a possibility.I do re scan the hole afterwards.
Thanks for the advice.

Usually the wiggle and pullback method works very well but also the pinpoint hotspot most times was between the spot where the rod mounts are and the front sticker on the coil.

Whites analog spoiled me for near 30 yrs. Dead on IF it was a coin. 705- sometimes is accurate. I never understood the buzz about a separate pinpoint tool until I used my 705. It's the only modern MD I ever used.
I'm certain that I will damage a good find with the 705. 10x5 wiggle method- about 70-80% on. 9" cc about 70%. Have two more coils coming.Even Digger noted that many times the target is in the back left hand side of the initial pin point.
This MD has many great features. But IMO- the depth and pinpointing leave a lot to be desired.
I'm hell bent on learning the 705. The tones are superb-the weight is amazing. BUT I'm not confident enough to believe that i could do some ones manicured yard like I could with the Whites.

My rant and opinion. Still working hard on this exact topic.

What I do is use the front and back tips of the search coil. When I find a object I want to dig I will move the search coil towards me until the signal disappears. That means the object is now in front of the coil, I mentally note were that spot is. Then I will lift the coil up and move it foward and swing the coil back towards me until I get the signal again. That means the object is now at the tip of the back of the coil and I menatlly note that. I would then turn 90 degrees and repeat the above process. After doing this you should have the exact location of your object. It sounds like a long process but it takes less then 30 seconds to do this. This method works pretty good with my XT 70 with my 5 X 10 DD coil and my other detectors I use that have a DD coil. It is dead on most of the time..

DD coil

Eventually, the transmit signal runs out of steam. And in that process, the detection field becomes shorter, tip to heel. If you are looking for a deep target directly under the tip of the DD coil, it will likely be somewhere between the tip and the center of the coil. Just depends on the size of the target and the depth. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks for all the advice I'm thinking now that maybe my issue is with the targets depth and size,I will try a few different methods and like everything else with the 705 'll get the hang of it.
Still learning as I go But I'm almost there LOL...
