Pin Pointing with a PI Machine...?

EasySwing

New member
I have the Sea Hunter Mark II and noticed when targeting an object the object sounds off while the coil is stationary over the object as well as in motion. Is motion necessary to target the object with a PI Machine in general? Or... is my Sea Hunter different? I have the MXT and it requires constant motion for pin pointing.
Thanks, EZ

The original Seahunter was non-motion, so I guess the Mk2 is as well. Motion type response is generally now favoured for land PI's as it cancels drift and slow changes in mineralisation, plus the pinpointing is sharper. However, there are downsides to motion, particularly for underwater detection where you can't swing the coil fast, due to water resistance. Motion is not necessary for pinpointing, although the resulting target response can be somewhat broader.

Eric.

Yes its non motion but Garrett claimed that the discrete discrimination mode is similar in operation to other detectors with motion discrimination. So I guess they are suggesting you get the best of both worlds !

The standard mode hits stronger than the discreet mode, the discreet is a motion mode, the standard does not require motion, atleast that is the way it works on my MKII. HH

Doesn't really mean its true motion. A major detector manufacturer was selling its detectors at one time as motion machines when they were really non motion running in an auto tune mode.
