Pinpointing With The SE

Ok I was out hunting with the New Explorer SE and had trouble pinpointing. Some other detectors pinpoint in the center of the coil. Now what do we use on the Explorer SE????? Seemed like I was off by about 3 or four inches from where I thought the coin Pinpointed.

It is just forward of where the shaft connects to the coil. It also depends at what point you hit the pinpoint button.

I normally lift the coil about 8-10 inchs, Hit the pinpoint button and return to grond where you fell the target is. This should narrow your search.

i plan on pinpointing the way i always have with the sovereign and explorer xs. bringing the coil back until the detected item is just in front of the front edge of the coil. i will use this until i find that the vco pinpointing is 'better'. i just got the se today, so time will tell!

I pinpoint the same as you but I think you're going to find out that the VCO is a tad closer. I get the hightest tone from the VCO when the target is right over the RED M on the coil. The Red M is located right in front of the lower shaft where it attaches to the coil. What I really like is that you can hear the difference in depth when using the VCO feature. The new VCO pinpointing feature is extremely accurate and easy to use.

Hi, Yes, I am also using the logo in the center of the coil as the center - will have to see if the "M" is even a better center. I liked the older coil because it had a little plastic nub (probably from the mold) that I used to use as a center reference.

Now regarding the VCO, the old pinpoint on the XS also indicated depth by the frequency of the beats in the hum - you knew you had a very deep target when you got that studdering sound. I am having a difficult time getting used to the new VCO sound. Am I the only one here that can't stand the sqeal it makes?
