Pinpointing ??

I have an explorer XS and I'm having trouble pinpointing deep coins. Any Ideas? or should I be shopping for a pinpointer. I really dont want the extra weight of a sunray. I'm thinking about a vibra probe 570 because of the size and ability to use it with my other detectors.

The only thing about the 570 I don't like is it must be very close to pick up your target. With the Sunray 3 to 4 inches and it uses your detectors settings, just like a Minnie coil.

I have read where the depth has been increased on the latest model. It wouldn't be much help unless it will pick up 1.5 to 2 inches.

I use different methods depending on what type hunting I am doing. One thing you can try if there is not many nearby targets is to start sweeping like you would while detecting(not using pinpoint mode) farther out from the item till you get a signal of the target while moving your coil back toward you. Make a mental note on the ground where the heel of the coil was when you first got the signal. Then you can use the top of the coil approaching the target the same way as explained above but this time you want to start beneath where you know the target is, start sweeping and then move the coil away from you, noting where the signal started and the relation of the ground to the top of the coil was. Then turn 90 degrees and repeat, the imaginary "middle" of all this will be where the target is. I hope you understand all this, it's hard sometimes to word stuff like this, if not maybe somebody can explain it better. Maybe this method along with the pinpoint mode will help, at least you can give it a try. I think some simply lift the coil off the ground and "X" the signal (not pinpoint mode), I don't believe I have tried this one enough to know how it works.

If you get a probe try and make sure it doesnt interfere with your detector. A friend told me the uniprobes will make the Explorer go nuts. I have a Tinytec and it works fine next to the Explorer. It doesnt get the distance the Sunray probes do but its weight in my pouch not on my detector and I dont have to use it that much so its fine. Steves method of pinpointing is what I mostly do, a heel or toe location with the coil and Ive done this so long Ive gotten pretty good at it.

I use a Treasure Mate, works really well with good depth. Has a hip mounted pouch thats works great.

If you should get interference between it and your XP, change your XP to a different freq.

They are made by Tesoro!!

Why don't you guys use a HIPSTICK and Bungee, and then you won't have to worry about the weight, they are magic HH. Bob

G'Day Neil, No thats not a Hipstick, Do a Google search for Hipstick it has all the pictures, There $25 in the US and $65 out here in Australia

Why don't you hip mount the unit ? I am working on a hip mount for my SE, just waiting on the upper shaft. I hip mounted my GTI 2500 and doing the same with my SE.

Reckon I got lost on the thread, it started off about Pin Pointing Duh!! sorry all.

Treasure Mate is a good PP, comes with a holster and easy to use, has Vib, or sound .... also gets good depth.

Ive never even heard of this item before but I can see how it would help. Heres the you tube link:

put that in your browser and have a look.

Thanks much Hungry!

I have thought about hipmounting the Explorer, just need a low priced coil wire extension to give it a try.
I was looking over on the mod forum last week where they were talking about connectors, seems a CB or microphone connector is what it used on the Explorer. I may look into this later...

I use the vibrapro, but because its a pulse detecting device you do have to move the detector away or you get feed back. Sometimes its like looking for a needle in a haystack since it has little depth, maybe a half inch depending on how good your batteries are. I often grab the little wizzard and stick it in the hole if ive had to dig very deep. For the price im just not impressed with the pinpointer.
