Platypus coil.

Here is a picture of the Platypus coil I got from Doc's. I hooked it up again and hit my power button and all my XS did was beep once and the screen was blank. Hooked my stock coil up, hit the power button and it came on with no problem. I got an email from Greg at Doc's and he said the coil should be coiled next to the connector and it should say on the coil Platypus for the Explorer. I didn't see either of these. Before I send it back does it look like the right coil to any of you guys? Thanks for any help.

Eddie

Mine is Serial #0194 and says right below the bolt where I see your black lettering for Explorer and Quattro void if removed. Should work unless it is faulty. From your pic. it looks identical to mine. I recall another coil I bought sometime back that was for the old XS and when I put it on all I got was a bunch of static and sent it back. From your post it sounds like a faulty coil, it happens. Best of luck Eddie

It says SD Series and GP Series Detectors on the label. Now I'm pretty sure that they sent me the wrong coil if the label is suppose to say for Explorer and Quattro. Looks like I will sending this one back. Thanks jb.

I have to agree Rusty. I'm more sure then ever now that Doc sent me the wrong coil. We'll get it straightened out eventually. Thanks,

Eddie

Yup its a wrongun Mine says Explorer Quatro ser 0175. My first one was falling at low sensitivity but this one is a keeper. Runs real smooth. Seems like it is less sensitive to electoral interference than the stock one. The other night I was at the soccer field under some way big field lights and got it to run really smooth by turning down sensitivity after doing the channel search. My other brand was very erratic no matter where the sensitivity was set. I have found that using gain 4 works very well on it also giving me softer sounds for deeper targets and Iding foil wrappers by switching to pinpoint
and getting deeper readings than they really are. As long as the wrappers are flat and not wadded up semms to work pretty good.

My first look at it shows it is the wrong coil as the cable is straight and not coiled like all the Explorer cables are.
When I bought a used 5 inch coil that was suppose to be for my Sovereign I seen the cable was coiled, so I knew right away it was for the Explorer. It was OK as I had a Explorer too and may not have found out how great they work on the Explorer if it wasn't for the mistake.
The coil you have is for the SD gold detectors.

Thanks Mike for all the info. I'll be sending this one back and get the right one. I'm sure I ordered the one for my Explorer, but mistakes do happen. HH.

Thanks Rick. I knew you guys would know for sure. I sent the picture to Doc also just to show him as well that it's the wrong coil. HH.

Funny this should happen to you cause when I called to check on mine the Girl said Oh we thought yours was a GP. Coincidence? Maby they sell a lot of GP coils.

Lets see, it happened to Andy, it happened to you, it would have happened to me if I had not called. Good thing this is not baseball,
you know - 3 strikes and your out. H H .
