please help with twitching i think i know but i must not be doing something write cause i don't get anything from it or raising the coil someone want

Twitching your targets is a great tip. Last summer Uncle Willy was talking about so I tried it and now I twitch just about every target.

Ok, Moving the coil fast 2 inches side to side over the target is twitching. Please what advantage does this give? Why would one do this? Thanks in advance.

It just kinda verifies your target/pinpoint location, I just kinda wiggle my fingers like i have a nervous tic in em, heck any kinda twitch or wiggle will do it, just a slight movement, bout ever wiggle or twitch it'll beep, can make it sound like a machine gun if you want, works on bout any make, been doin it for years, never even thought bout it:detecting:

The Ace goes deeper when you twitch the coil. If it is a good target, it will lock on better. If it is trash it will usually be a one way signal or lock on a trash icon. If you have a trash item with a good target, you have to twitch on the side with the good target to prevent the trash target from influencing the ID. It's only a SLIGHT twitch-about as if you were going from side to side of a quarter-but the searchcoil will move further because of the weight. Try with sensitivity at #3 bar until you get the hang of it. It's just a tool to help. I once got a penny signal and when I "twitched" it, it moved to square tab(below the zinc penny icon). When I dug it it was a zincer that was half eaten away.

Your detector is a motion detector. The faster the coil moves the better it discriminates and the deeper it goes.

I would love to see a quick video example of twitching from one of you guys who know this machine real well. to show how the machine reacts to targets think one of you could pull it off?

I have a camera with a short video capability and will try to experiment with it-but that will probably be after Christmas as I just get up and rush to Wally World and work! The idea of "twitchin" is old hat. Several years back, detectorists noticed that they could "whip" the coil and certain trash targets would "break up" while the good targets would still give a solid signal. Coincedentally, they found that when they got a good signal they could just break up the "whip" into smaller and smaller segments while raising the coil and pinpoint. It almost became one continuous motion with the practitioners, and that is probably how "twitchin" started. The ACE will do the same. The BIG difference is the ACE had a bonus-targets got LOUDER, and ID'ed better and the DEEPER targets came in better. That is why I only hunt at #3-4 sensitivity unless I'm at an older site-any "iffy" signal and I just "twitch" it and it's like automatically raising the sensitivity a notch or two.

That's the same way I use it on the ace 250. Mostly right before getting ready to pinpoint.
Or during pinpointing if I'm in multiple targets and want a double check on the ID.
I've found if you have targets that are kind of close together, using the twitch will let you know
which is the one being pinpointed at that moment. I pretty much do it with every target I dig
as I like to double check I'm fixing to dig the right one.
You don't have to move too much.. I usually just wiggle my wrist a bit. The coil might bobble
an inch or two, unless it's real deep, and I might have to twitch a bit harder.
Now, I don't use the twitch for trying to get max depth. For that I use a more normal wide swing
at a fairly quick pace. And I'll usually overlap my swings a good bit to try to avoid missing stuff
down at the narrow end of the pattern. I'll run the machine as hot as I can stand it, and if I get
any repeating blips, I'll double check em. Some end up being deep targets worth digging.
But for me, the twitch is mainly a pinpointing target verification process.. On the ace 250, it works
very well for that purpose.

Yeah I used "twitching" on my Tesoros many years ago and made some good finds. Many corroded coins will give a lousy signal but "twitching" clears it up.

Why would you need a video? It's a mind boggling simple procedure. Just hold the coil over a target that gives a lousy signal and move it side to side rapidly in short strokes ( couple of inches each way ) and if the target is good the signal and ID will change to good.

Bill

No problem. I'm kinda like you. I think I'm poppin' coins with my screwdriver the easiest way possible and then I see Bill's article on using a lever for the tough ones and I learn somethin' new. I'm thinking a video of twithcin' with a good object next to a junk one would be the best one to show. That may mean a lengthy wait for the perfect field setting and target response to occur. But it's like the poppin' coins scenario-it's so simple that you'll do it right most of the time and learn the rest as you do it. And that's what makes this hobby so fun. I think the best video would be watchin' John stompin' around on the ground......:clapping:

just thought it would be good to see and hear in action from someone with exp. sorry

Don't be sorry ,you learn by asking those question.
Likely some one will eventually post something on that line of question. Sometimes it takes a while
to get the desired answer.
The people on this forum are usually pretty helpful.:help:

I am unable to do it timewise until after the holidays. But I did go out for an hour before work this am. There IS a need for the video. Why? Sometimes the "twitch" needs to be slower, especially in the coins mode. In a/m or relic mode it can be faster. When I first started playing around with it, I had the impression that it was pretty rapid, but it's more a hurried "twitch" than a lightning fast jiggle. There must be a little lag to allow the detector to respond-that's my experience, anyway. Found 12 quarters with sensitivity at #2 because of the overload of trash and large metal trash in the area-the icons were dancing all over the place at higher settings.Found a quarter at 6" that had turned red because it has been missed by others and me on earlier outings. It gave a bong at the medium pace sweep that I use, and when I slowed it down, the target became one way. Twitchin" caused the target to really bong. It was an exciting find as it showed that there is some truth in the statement that too much sensitivity can actually cause missed targets-at the same time it showed the value of twitchin" Also found a dime next to a trash item that registered "foil" and could twitch and separate the two.(I always include the foil icon in the coins mode to have a chance at more rings). At relic mode and a/m mode, speed will actually cause the targets to widen.
