Just when you think things are getting better something else comes up. Yesterday afternoon we had a scare when Howard just started shaking really hard. The bed was bouncing. I called for the nurse and they came and put him on oxygen, took his blood pressure and it was high, and checked his fever. It wasn't that high so they called the doctor to see what to do. They finally decided that he had a reaction to his platelets he had been given a few minutes before. He finally quieted down and things got back to normal.
Today they came in and said everything looked pretty good but he had a blood culture come back saying that he had an infection. About an hour later the physician's assistant called to tell him that they were going to remove his Hickman cath as they felt that was where the infection was coming from. Sooooo, we went down to the specials lab and had it removed. It only took about five minutes to take it out and we went back to our room. We still don't know the results from the lab.
Tomorrow they are coming in to put in a PICC line. It will go through his arm and into the heart. This will probably be temporary. Time will tell on this.
He doesn't feel bad so this is good considering he is on many antibiotic's. It would be impossible to name all the medicine's he is taking. Anyway, we are hanging in here hoping for better news tomorrow.
Love you all, Donna and Howard
