Positive/negative question for coinstrikers...

ok all you Coinstriker fans, answer me this...if you get a good positive coin reading in one direction, left to right and back, say + 28-30; you check the signal at nienty degrees from the original sweep; if the signal goes negative, do you dig?? If the same signal drops into the low teens or jumps abit, do you dig:shrug:

reason Im asking, this one area I was working, I missed quite a few 6-8 inch wheat/silver targets with my Coinstrike, only to dig them with another detector:ranting:

I was under the impression that if the reading goes negative when double checking the target from the other sweep direction, that it was iron. Now Im wondering if I was alittle to hasty in assuming that.In all fairness I think I worked the area only once with the Strike, not sure. But have never found anything at 6-8 inches with a Strike or a Cz at this particular site, not so at other sites. This place has gravel at 6 inches and a fair amount of nails. Maybe Im sweeping the coil too fast?:veryangry:

Mike,
All top brands do this. Dig when they bounce around, you will be glad you did. Tex

your in a trashy area then you may want to slow it down a bit. Now, if I had a positive signal one way and not the other, I might dig it depending on the area and how much I have hunted it before. My rule of thumb when it comes to diggin signals with the C$ is if the ID hits more positive then negative I will dig it. Because a lotof time, there might be trash in the same hole with the target and its giving you two seperate readings, which will cause a positive & negative bounce. At least thats my take on it. But I'm no expert with it, I'm curious to see what Bill & Tony have to say about it.

It really depends on the area. Sometimes I'll dig one just to see what it is. If it turns out to be iron then you know & don't have to dig any more.
It's kinda a catch 22 sometimes because it could be a deep coin that's barely in ID range. I like to flip into all metal on these signals as sometimes that extra power will give a better ID. Also, just more hours under your belt just seems to make these "iffy" signals become easier to decide to dig or not. I swear I can tell by the sound now...iron sounds hollow & not as crisp. But like Mike said, depends on site too. If I'm at a really old place or looking to unmask stuff at a worked out site I'll dig signals like that all day. Sometimes ya strike out...other times strike it rich :) HH, Bill

Heck I even agree with you Bill.

Gotta be agreeable after all the ruckus I stirred up today.
