Power of Prayer...............

Hello, I am new here but just wanted to share a quick story, and comment on how much I have enjoyed reading all the posts on this forum. I am a Christian, live in Arizona, and have been detecting for over 30 years. Great hobby which I enjoy very much.

First let me say that my prayers go out to those who have recently lost loved ones or friends. Praise be to GOD that as believers we know they are just fine and in a wonderful place of no sorrow, pain, or tears, ..... just GOD's amazing perfection. I lost my Mother on July 1st, so I can relate to your loss, but I am so happy for my Mom and look forward to seeing her again one day.

I too have had a number of challenges recently, loss of a business, my Mom passing July 1st, and some health issues, but, .................. I have had many blessings and victories too, and I just wanted to quickly share a big one with you.

My youngest son (25) is a 3 year Patrol / SWAT officer with a major metropolitan Police Department here in Arizona. Like all parents of Police officers or military personnel, we pray for his protection daily. Well I am happy to report the amazing power of prayer. Yes, GOD is listening and he does answer prayer.

I won't get into the long story, but ............ a few weeks back a guy who had already killed two people and wounded a number of others ambushed my son, firring 6 shots from a 38 Super automatic handgun through his driver side window at a range of about 25 feet.

My son had just pulled his car to a stop, put it in park, and opened his car door. As his left foot touched the ground the world exploded around him. Two bullets passed within 2-3 inches of his chest passing through his car, one 2 inches in front of his face (he said he could smell the gun powder as the bullet went by), one struck his spotlight on his car, and two striking his patrol car computer. Glass exploding into his face, my son rolled to his right, slammed the car into Drive, and mashed the gas hard, the car bolting down the street to safety,..................... my son was unhurt!

What was amazing was what happened just 20 minutes earlier as my son was about to leave the station at the start of his shift. My son is almost 6'7" and always has his car seat as far back as it will go, but .............. as he was about to leave the station that night he suddenly had a thought, wondering if the seat might just go back any further. He pulled the lever and pushed, ... nothing. He tried again, ........... nothing. One last time he tried, ............... and the seat went back about 3 inches. Apparently he had never had it all the way back after all, ............................... and that extra 3 inches would save his life 20 minutes later as bullets whizzed right where he would have been sitting had he not had that thought to move the seat. "Dad, I should be dead. Angels were moving bullets for me last night.", he told me. Even though he always wears a bullet proof vest, he said that had he been sitting where the seat had previously been set, two of the rounds would have entered the vest opening under his left arm, and another would have likely hit the side of his head.

Yes, no doubt about it, we serve an AWESOME GOD, and he surely does answer prayer.

Sorry to be so winded, but with a victory like this one I just feel the need to share with other believers.

God Bless you all.

John

This is a tough job we have,If I didnt thank God was watching over me and the other officers I would be scared to death to do it.the thing with your son proves our faith is not in vain

Praise the Lord your son was uninjured.

What kind of detector do you use and what is your preferred type of hunting do you do. What is the most exciting find you have made, feel free to post pictures along with your posts if you like.

Hello Mark,

I have always enjoyed detecting old school yards, old home sites, and parks. Coin hunting mostly, but I must admit finding lost jewelry is sure a lot of fun too. Living in Arizona, I always wanted to try detecting for Gold nuggets but just never got the chance to do so.

Detectors, ...... I have tried them all, and enjoyed them all. My first "good" detector was an old Bounty Hunter "Red Baron", way back in the 70s. Great machine for it's time and on my first time out with it I found a 1901 dime down about 5 inches in shallow left field of an old school ball field. Been hooked on detecting ever since I pulled that dime from that hole and saw 1901.

My favorite machines over the years have been: White's XLT, Minelab Explorer & Sovereign, Fisher CZ-3D, & Excel, and Tesoro Lobo, Cortes, & Bandito II.

I currently do not have a machine, but have a Fisher Coinstrike on a truck which should arrive late this week. Looking forward to trying that one out.

I guess my best find was many years ago with the old Tesoro Bandito II. I was working an old home site which I had worked many times before, finding only a few Wheat pennies. I had found only one penny and was about to call it a day when I got a solid signal right next to an old dead tree stump. The place was loaded with lots of junk, small pieces of sheet metal, pieces of old beer cans, nuts, bolts, screws, and iron nails. The Bandito indicated junk and I assumed this was the case, but something told me to dig, ......... which I did. Am I glad I did, .....down about 8 inches I hit something about the size of a beer can. Careful digging revealed it was in fact some sort of steel can, ...... an old decaying tobacco can. I almost didn't finish digging it up, but something told me to continue. I dug up the decaying can and inside found wrapped in an oily rag 4 old silver dollars, 2 silver dimes and a small rusty pocket knife. Wow, I was amazed. I found a treasure someone apparently buried next to that tree. It was a great moment and I guess my best find ever.

Amen, my friend. I think GOD assigns some very special Angels to protect and assist those of you who do this work.

I had the opportunity to ride along with my son a few months back, and I was amazed at the highly trained fine people he works with. Professionals all the way, and just good cops. My worries were reduced by 90% after watching him and his squad members do their jobs that night.

Add GOD's protection to all that and my worries are gone.

Still, evil is out there and I pray for all of you in Law Enforcement daily, and thank GOD that there are people like yourself willing to do the job so the rest of us can feel safe.

Thanks Mike.

Yes he is, ..... ALL THE TIME!

After 27 years in the Aluminum Manufacturing business, I quit my job and my wife and I invested about everything we had in a Flower Shop (Florist) in early 2006. Great business, but just bad timing on our part. When the economy turned sour, people quit buying nonessentials, and flowers are not really essentials. The Florist business has been hit pretty hard, and being relatively new we just couldn't survive. We had to file bankruptcy and close the shop January of this year. We lost everything, but you know what, ....... It was all GOD's anyway, and we have faith that he has another direction for us to travel and we are looking forward to that, whatever it may be.

I cannot tell you how blessed I have been in my life. GOD blessed us with four beautiful children and with his daily help we managed to successfully raise them to adulthood and off on their own. GOD has been good, and I know he will continue to bless us,................. if I will just let him lead and quit trying to help him get it done.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, it is greatly appreciated.

Where in AZ are you?

Hello Mike,

I currently live in Mesa, lived for over twenty years in Chandler, and grew up in west Phoenix. Been in the good old valley my whole life.

Steve from So AZ lives in Tucson.

Welcome John to the forum and being a member of our family here! Praise God for keeping your son safe in a mysterious way that only God can do for nothing is impossible with Him and He knows all things past, present and future! Your son has more service to do for our Lord and I thank him and all who are out in a dangerous and sinful world for protecting us and I thank Jesus for protecting him!

I am sorry to hear about your mother passing away for I just lost my brother of 72 years, Aug 12, and the funeral was Monday! My deepest sympathy to you and yours and, yes, we know they are in a far better place than this earthly realm, but it is still sadness and heartaches to lose a loved one, as I had him living in my home for almost four years and had gotten to know him again after many years of not seeing or being with each other! I loved him, dearly, and also my other brother, a twin to his sister, committed suicide in Aug 2007! He was born in Sept of 1946, so never expected him to go before Cliff or me! Life is full of trials but with Jesus, as our own personal Savior, we can endure and overcome all the tears, heartaches and trials that come and Praise God they don't last forever! Sorry about the loss of your business but when one door is closed God opens another, so keep the faith that He is leading and directing you to whatever you need to provide for you and yours and may He always protect each of you!

I know, Cliff and Larry, are with Jesus, as Larry was a very devout Chritian and wasn't in his right mind due to deep depression. Cliff knew Jesus and loved him, too, just like I do and we will meet again some-glad-day!

I hope you find lots of goodies and can post often as a brother-in-Christ! God Bless! Ma Betty

Ma Betty,

I can't thank you enough for your warm welcome, kind words, and words of wonderful faith. My heart and prayers go out to you as you go through these sad times, but as you so beautifully said, with Jesus Christ as our personal Savior we will endure and overcome. Praise GOD!

I lost my dad at age 14, a fantastic man, he was not only my dad but my best friend in the world. My younger brother of 4 years suddenly passed away when I was 35 and my step dad, whom I really loved, passed away 30 days later. I have lost a lot of loved ones in my life, but "Praise GOD" they were all Christians and knew Jesus as their personal savior. I have always taken great comfort in the knowledge that they are all just fine, and oh what a family reunion we are going to have when my time comes to leave this world.

Ma Betty, thank you again. May GOD lovingly comfort you during this time sadness and I look forward to talking to you again soon.

GOD Bless!

John

Interesting!

My middle son lived in Tucson for 4 years, graduating from the University of Arizona there.

Thank you for your kindness and Christian love in the loss of my brother, Cliff, and so sorry for the sadness in your losing so many loved ones! And, yes, what a reunion we each will have when we get to heaven and celebrate our Home Coming! All I can say is: Save those who will be saved and then come quickly, Lord Jesus! I can hardly wait to get there but I know I have more to do for Him in serving, witnessing and loving others as He loves me! Amen! God Bless! Ma Betty

Great stories,
You got to love the subtle ways in which God will work in your life. You have got to wonder how many heard his story and about the bullets. Then wonder how many FINALLY made a decision based on that or renewed their walk, picked up their pace or got downright hardcore with christianity. However it works out you gotta love it.

Prayer Changes Things
