Pre-Civil War Militia button....

I found this cuff button a couple months ago, and I posted it on the DIV web page & they felt it was about an 1830's-40's militia button. It's gut a little eagle with a shield & a crosshatch background. I put in on the Dumpo where they think they know everything about "bootins" & no one had a clue & they spelled it "malitsha" <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> I figured I'd stick it up here now as my soil is now an ice block & I won't be diggin buttons for awhile. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry"> I guess I'll work on my display cases, do some writing, & hopefully get out there & GPS some new sites for the Spring. HH, Bill

Bill sent the photo to a friend of mine, if he can't ID it than I don't know what to tell ya...

most every button we find is in my Alberts book. Maybe it's in the Tice book? Not a big deal. Pre-Civil War seems correct to me....

Thats a nice button bill how deep it in the ground??I am interested in getting a fisher excell can you give some proper input on the machine ?I got very little help on the depot forum it seem they are bunch of brain dead idiots over there!!!! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

Hey Scott, well I see you know all about that "other place" where they call 'em "bootins" for some reason <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug"> Anyhow, glad to see your interested in an Excel. If your interested in target ID, a warranty for life, & a middle of the road price, the Excel may just be the detector for you. It's a number value system, kinda like the Coin$trike where iron reads as a negative value. I dig anything positive, as this button was a +10. The Excel weighs next to nothing, goes deep, has 4 tones, & is great in iron trash. If I didn't already have a Coin$trike, it would be my #1 unit. I've seen used Excels go as low as $275 on the Dumpo classifieds which is a steal <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> Any specific questions on the Excel...this is the place <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> HH, Bill

You mentioned DIV and Dumpo for button information. Where are these sites? I have a couple buttons that I would like to know more about. Would these sites help and would you mind telling me how to get there?
Thanks.

Bill below I have copied an e-mail from one of my relic hunting buddies. Your button has him stumped but as you read if you can get me a back mark maybe we can Id it and if not I'll send a pic to Daniel who I'm sure can make a positive Id.
<BLOCKQUOTE>Darryl,
I do not know what it is. It looks like a general service button of some type. I do not have a picture of a similar button in either my Tice book or Albert's. The raised border/rim with rope edging is just like a Naval buttons but the Eagle does not appear to be either holding or sittting on an anchor. Does it have a backmark. I have a huge reference listing of all known backmarks. MY guess would be it is post Civil War. Get me a backmark and perhaps I can I.D. it. He can also shoot a picture to Daniel Binder, who is a well known button expert. If anyone can i.d. it Binder can.

I don't see any backmark at all.....but thanks for all the help Darryl. If I really want confirmation I can e-mail Don Troini who also is a button expert. Thanks again to everyone....

I tried to send you an e-mail but it bounced back....
So here's a link to the forums that put on the DIV hunts. You don't really wanna go to the dumpo <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
