Pretty nice 5 hour hunt at niterider_58's beat up old park:super:

Haven't been able to hunt for over a week so Phil and I met at his beat up park that never gives up anything. Most of the time we go there because it's convenient for both of us and we never have much time. We noticed they were moving some dirt around so we decided to hit it hard again. The last time there we found ZERO. Two guys with $2500 worth of machines in their hands wandering around for 2 hours and couldn't even scare up a wheatie.
It was very hot and even more humid...but we hunted anyway. I started at a spot that had a few inches of dirt scraped off and started hitting wheaties immediately...so I knew there had to be some silver hidin' there too. I kept looking over at Phil and he wasn't doin' any diggin'..but he WAS doin' a whole lot of sweating. :crylol:His stock coil on his xs isn't finding anything and I think it has a short or something. His 8" Minelab coil sounds good on it and so does his 12" Excelerator...but not the stock coil. I find a deep target and say..."deep silver or wheatie"...then call him over. I run my sef or 1050 coil over it and it sounds sweet. He then runs his xs over it and it sounds like a bunch of sick bullfrogs bellowing out 50 different tones and sounds.:stars: He was getting frustrated to hear the sweet sharp high pitch sound I was hearing with the 10 x 12 sef and 1050.
After finding a few wheaties...then my first silver...Phil still had nothing. I popped off my sef coil and let him use it for a while...and I put my 1050 coil on my SE. He has 2 of the pro coils coming...but they have been on back order from Minelab for almost a month...so he is in limbo for a coil. It isn't any fun for me if I'm finding stuff but my buddy isn't.
Phil instantly started finding some wheaties and other goodies with my SEF. After about 45 minutes or so...I said.."okay pal..give my me coil back"..."you've used it enough".
I popped my sef coil back on and Phil used my 1050...and we both started popping out coins. I'll let him tell you about his finds when he gets time.
Almost all the coins I found were 8" or more deep to as deep as 10". Funny thing was that we were both so hot and tired after 2 hours..we both wanted to quit...but neither of us let each other know it.:bouncy: I would glance over at him out of the corner of my eye and he would be standing there leaning on his xs about to melt...but when he saw me looking...he instantly "woke up" and acted like he was swingin' the coil. I have no room to talk 'cause I did the same thing.
Finally I couldn't take it anymore...but rather than look like a putz:biggrin:...I told Phil I was going to walk to the car and move it around closer to the area we were....when in reality I just wanted to freakin' sit down. I moved the car then took Phil's ice water to him. When he saw the approaching beverage...you'd have thought he hit the lotto.:wiggle:
All the coins here are deeeeep from a lot of fill dirt. It is very common to find 9" deep memorial cents:thumbdown:.
The neatest find was the quarter I dug at 10" down straight on edge. I called him over to hear the signal and then started digging. I remember saying it had a shot at being silver. It was a very deep, depth gauge buried, chirper hit that repeated so I knew I had a shot at something good. I dug down and then dug down some more...finally popping out a chunk of dirt. I then pinched it and out popped a silver quarter which was completely unexpected. It was the first big silver we have popped out of there in over a year.
After 5 hours I had a pretty full pouch. I had a ton of wheaties...a buffalo nickel...5 silver...and an injun. A great day from a place that's given up nothing to us lately.
Phil's back in business now...his own 1050 coil should be here Monday...and his Minelab pro coils should be here in a few days too.

Great haul from your hunted out park!!!!

Way to go. Just goes to show there is still good hunting in the hunted out parks.

Congrats you guys!!---Sounds like you both ended up doing really good in that "worked to death" park.---The Explorer never ceases to amaze me the targets it can still pull out of some of those places.---Sometimes I'll look at the thing (Explorer) and say---"now, how do you ever do that"????-----What--you mean you don't talk to your detector??? ha----Good hunt guys, Del

it probably would have been a very long day. Sometimes we like to go there just because it IS so tough to find anything. It's a moral victory to dig a wheatie:detecting: Well...I need to be at work in 8 minutes...so gotta' run.

do some hunting with you...but I always seem to get busy and forget to set something up. Are weekday afternoons good for you...or weekend days better? Heck it wouldn't even need to be a long hunt. A couple of hours would better than nothing.

I got all my hair buzzed off...and I do mean buzzzzzzed. I had my girlfriend take a 2 or 3 different avatar pics. No way I would have 3 pics taken without my worn out tie dye harley shirt being one of 'em:bouncy:

for sharing your tips and settings with me. I hope I can start finding more silver and will let you know how it goes. How did your buddy end up doing?

HEY BRYCE NICE ON EDGE QUARTER, I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT THAT WAS AWESOME :surprised: THANKS FOR LETTING ME USE THE 10X12 SEF COIL THAT COIL ROCKS :crylol: MY XS IS BACK IN TUNE TODAY WITH A NEW 1050 COIL YESSSSSS!!!!! I WILL POST MY STUFF, THANK YOU AND HH...PHIL :yo:

Thanks Phil. You're gonna' love that coil. You will probably end up going back and forth between the 1050 and the new Minelab coil. I'm glad those are finally on the way to you too.

... now that you've been using the SEF 10x12 for a while, how do you compare its performance with the EQ2 10x14??

Nice finds, BTW!

Looks like 2008 is your year to make a lot of great finds and a bunch of Silver too! Glad to see you finding Silver still and hope it continues! I find it fun just to dig the Wheaties also since you know that Silver could be the next Target you dig. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you and your crew you hunt with.

you taking the time to respond to my post...as I'm sure Phil appreciates you responding to his as well. As for the wheaties...yep..I like diggin' 'em too...cause if there are wheaties poppin out...then there has to be silver hiding in there too. I'm just glad Phil started finding stuff and has his confidence back again:thumbup:

I love the sef coil too. It is a lot like the 10 x 14...rock stable...deep...and ID's are very accurate for me. The best part of the SEF coil is that it separates like a 5" or 6" coil...and you can run the sensitivity at about whatever you want with little or no falsing. The same holds true for the 10 x 14...but I can't swing it all day like I can the SEF coil. For me...the 10 x 14 doesn't seem to be balanced as well as the SEF coil is...but man it goes deep. For an everyday coil..I would have to choose the sef over the 10 x 14....but you can bet the farm...that I'd be back the next day to run the 10 x 14 over the same site to make sure I didn't miss anything:detecting:

finding quite a few goodies and posted his finds too...so check out his post. Good luck to you and PM me any time you want to. Let me know how the settings go for you.

Thanks for your opinion - most appreciated. I've had the 10x14 for a few weeks now, and my experience has been about the same as yours; stable at higher sensitivity (first time I've been able to run sensitivity over 24 in my soil); good separation; etc... but a tad heavy.

Oh well, now I can just skip my cardio workouts...

Bryce...excellent hunting my man. Your settings have really helped out...and I have a 1050 coil on the way. I would have liked to try the SEF coil but I couldn't find one...backorder I guess.
