Pro Coil

Went back to Richmond again today and was a little more selective on the targets I dug. Dug half as many nails as yesterday and got a lot more keepers. 98 Barber (toast), 28 and 43d Merc, 97 and 07 Indian, 16,2-20,26,27,56 Wheaties. The 2 Merc's have orange stripes across the backs from the iron. Thanks Tim and Jack, the south end was much better. Gotta love that pro coil.

Those Richmond guys are trouble!! I would watch out lol Great finds!!

I would for sure watch out for Tim ....He uses a DFX..........he will want you to come over and verify he has a target............LOL

i've been searching online and can't find it as a stand-alone upgrade for my SE.

if anybody knows where i can buy a Minelab 11" Pro coil, please post a link.

thanks in advance

i read one thread from Fall 2008, comparing the SEF 10x12 vs. the ML Pro coil. there were a couple of strong opinons which leaned toward the Pro coil being the better of the two, and the reasons given were: a) lighter weight of the Pro coil, and b) better separation with the Pro coil. i wasn't able to find any other relevant posts in this forum, but i might have overlooked something.

while i am very happy with my SunRay Stealth X-8, i was looking to purchase both the SEF 6x8 as well as the ML 11" Pro coil in the very near future.

i am hoping that the SEF 6x8 will get improved depth over the SunRay X-8 (which is currently my primary coil), and that the Pro coil will not only outperform the SEF 10x12, but that it will be a significant upgrade from the ML 10.5" Slimline coil.

i have a limited budget, and this will likely be my only major MD purchase this year. i really appreciate anybody's advice

The Pro coil can be got from any Minelab dealer, but at the present time they are back ordered from Minelab to the dealers, so maybe one of the sponsoring dealers may have one in stock you can get, if not they will have them when available from Minelab.

I too have the X-8 of Sun Rays and it is a very good coil and one I used the most on my E-Trac and it would have to be proven to me the SEF 6X8 would work better if i was to buy one as i know what the X-8 will do for me.

I ordered my Pro coil from Sgt Rikers Trading post in Ashland VA. I also bought my used XS from him and was extremely pleased with his service and speed.

thanks, Jim-IN. i guess i'll have to call around once i make a decision.
you made some nice finds. can you explain why you think the Pro coil made a big difference? what other coils do you use?

from what i've read, the SEF 6x8 should separate as well as the X-8, while giving better depth... ?

and as for the Pro 11" i am looking for a larger coil (for better depth/coverage) with stability & good performance, and i'm not getting that with my Slimline. i've always goten a lot of falsing with the Slimline [my stock coil], which is one reason i use the X-8 all the time now...any time i switch them out, i have to jack with my settings, get a bunch of falsing, and i feel pretty much lost...then i put the X-8 back on and it's fine again. (i also have the Excelerator 5", but it doesn't cover enough ground for me...and i already hunt at a snail's pace!)

maybe i should just stick with the X-8, but i was hoping to gain a little more edge this summer.

as an afterthought, how does the SunRay X-12 compare to the ML Pro 11" coil? anybody?

i clicked the wrong link when i did my Google search. i see it now. doh! :rage:

now i need to know how the Pro coil compares to the SunRay 12" before i buy either one.

I never heard that the Pro separates better then the S.E.F?
Ask the UK guys, they should know serious separation when they see it. (some hunt trashy fields etc)

I've only heard the weight is slightly more on the S.E.F.

Nice Finds Jim
