Problem tuning IDX-Pro with Mr Bill Mod

New member
I'm proud owner of my IDX-Pro with Mr. Bill's mod. Can't seem to get any depth over about 4 inches worth a darn. I try to adjust ground balance and threshold but guess I don't know just how to do it properly. Would appreciate any assistance.

These are instructions on setting the Threshold and GB by Mr. Bill. Also try an air test, just to see what kind of depth you are getting. You should be getting about 10 - 11 inches on a dime with 950 coil, in Norm. and Disc. set to Min.

Instructions: Classic II, III, ID, & IDX, & Pro series, Modified.

Adjust Threshold first.

Threshold Setting:
Pull trigger, and adjust the Threshold control to hear the Threshold audio comfortably. One needs to set the Threshold audio loud enough to hear strongly, so that you can set the Ground Balance. Reset it to softer levels for deep hunting in the All Metal mode.

Ground Balance: *
Pull trigger, and hold on or set trigger forward, locked on. Adjust Threshold audio to your hearing. Holding coil a couple of feet above ground parallel, lower coil to ground. The Threshold audio should remain at the same level. If the Threshold audio rises or drops, the Ground Balance control can be adjusted one way or another, so that lowering the coil to the ground the Threshold audio stays the same. Setting it this way would give you a neutral Ground Balance point. Having a slight increase when lowering coil to ground would give you a positive Ground Balance offset. The same in reverse, if the audio went slightly silent, giving you a negative Ground Balance offset. They could be times being a little (+) positive, or (-) negative ground balanced, may enhance target response.
* Ground balance adjustment has a direct affect on the display reading, (ID, IDX). The display has been factory pre-set at a slightly positive (+) ground balance setting. Adjusting ground balance up or down a little from this point, should have negligible affect on the display accurateness.

Power Boost Discriminate:Boost circuitry comes into affect at about the 4 oclock position on the Sensitivity control, adjusting from that point on. (Note: It only works in the discriminate mode.) Depending on ground conditions you may not be able to use all the boost gain. The detector will become unstable * with the user noticing a lot of false signals both in the audio, and on the display, (ID, IDX). Just back off until detector stabilizes.

*The unstableness first becomes apparent in the display, (ID, IDX). It will paint many blocks at one time in the view. You can still hunt like this but the display will not read properly, you have the sensitivity on the maximum edge. Just retard the sensitivity adjustment back until display stabilizes to get it to ID properly.

S.A.T. Switch. (if equipped)( Self Adjusting Threshold), is a (2) two position switch mounted in the front of the control box.
Position # 1 is factory setting. Position # 2 is a slower mode.

Knob Tension Adjust:
There is a o-ring beneath the knobs that apply tension to the control knob shafts. This can be
adjusted by loosening knob retaining screw just enough to lift the knob a tinny bit, to ease up the tension, or push
down to increase tension, re-secure screw to set.
