Problem with electrolosis/ Electrical Question?!?

I was bored yesterday evening and deciding to do a little electrolosis on the button I found(see my post below). I didn't particularly care if it deteriorated, it'd be a learning process either way. Problem is I can't get it to work. I followed a tutorial I found online and have a few ideas on what I'm doing wrong.

The tutorial said to use an AC/DC adapter, 9, 12, or 18v output. The only thing I could find that also got the wifes approval was for a set of old hair trimmers. Preface: my questions may sound stupid but electrical anything isn't my thing. I can do most routine work on our vehicles(brakes, radiator flush, transmision, differential, replacing half shafts, starters, alternators, fuel filters, etc.) but I'd feel more comfortable overhauling an engine than replacing a light switch. :surrender:

So the plugin doesn't say adapter on it anywhere and doesn't mention DC, it has a 9v/200amp AC output. I didn't split the wires, install aligator clips(yes correctly), and identified the ground. This was my setup: 8oz water, 2 teaspoons salt, Glass Cup, 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 stainless steel spoon. The tutorial mentioned I needed to attach the alligator clip to the bare metal on the object I was trying to clean. When I plug it in the alligator clip bubbles/fizzles and a few small bubbles come from the spoon every other minute or so but nothing happens with the button? Is this because the clip isn't touching enough of the bare metal? Is it because I'm not using enough voltage(only 9), or is there a difference between a plug in that has AC output versus one that reads "adapter" and puts out DC current?

The tutorial said a coins should start bubbling and forming a black cloud around it, when I did attach a real dirty coin it didn't form a cloud but it did bubble.

Also the tutorial mentioned that electrolosis would remove non-metalic substances from the surface of the coin. Does this mean it won't work with a rusty button? ANY advice would be great. The button isn't that important but not getting the thing to seemingly work right is pissing me off. I refuse to let another electrical thing get the best of me:ranting:

but I would be sure to use an adapter and not just a hot plug wire!!!!
The contact of all the connections is very important. Rust keeps the connection from working so you might want to use a wire brush or sandpaper to get rust from where the clips touch the button.
