I had nothing but trouble trying to use these detectors trying to follow the meter. After reading posts here, I discriminated out all but 48, just listened to the sounds and ignored the meter. and things started working well for me. Sure glad there's a site like this to help people like me.

not for sure why you would disc out all but 48. the xterra is a very easy detector to program and get into action on a site. Check out the faq's and study up on it. they are located at the top of this page

This is the Numbers Chart for the X-terra's. If you're x'ing out everything up to 48, you're missing a lot of good targets!

I updated the chart when the new models came out. It is posted in our FAQFAQ section above. Here's a link.....

I tried to use the meter to ID targets and didn't have much luck. I started using the all Metal Mode and started listening (grey Ghost Ultimate Headphones) and on each high pitch sounds I pinpoint the center and very slowly work my way to the edge. If the pitch lowers it isn't a coin, if it stays the same it most likely is.

There are too many ways the coin could be lying and the depth that will cause the TID to "Not be accurate" so use your ears.

Check out Randy Horton's articals on Minelab's site.
