Proper coil for coins over 7"

I have Ex2 with stock and now the new Platypus coils. I noticed several posts saying the PP was slightly better than the stock, better balance, etc. I have read the posts about 10" deep coins etc. Used all the options discussed on this forum at one time or other, and I am a pretty solid, experienced detectorist. It has proven near impossible to dig coins over 7 inches in central KY soil. I've got two locations that have yielded half dime, seated, musket balls, etc, but not over 7 inches deep. I've gone back to them and other hot spots with 6 different machines and set ups over a period of 12 years. They yield almost nothing now and I keep going back just to see if I can dig anything below 7 inches. Can't do it. The Explorer gets more than the others but below 7 inches it just ain't there. Somebody tell me how to set up to dig coins over 7 inches deep in black, rich, horse country soil. What would you expect to do with a 15" WOT in the super clean areas that have given up civil war era finds in the past? Does Doc maybe have a coil recommendation for these areas? Is it possible this area just doesn't give it up?

If the stock coil is not picking up targets (any kind of targets) beyond 7" due to ground conditions then a bigger coil may not be (probably isn't) the answer. It doesn't matter what machine you are using, if the ground is killing the depth like that going to a bigger coil would probably only make it worse.
Try the cheap little ML Advantage with the 10" coil in that ground if you haven't already. <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

My buddy and I detect quite often in many different places. Coins over 7 inches just don't turn up here. You would think there would be 10" deep coins somewhere in this and adjoining counties. Maybe another KY detectorist can back me up on this or dispute it and teach me a lesson. Either way I intend to pursue it vigorously and post the results from time to time.

Thanks for the response. What is the ML Advantage and why would another 10 inch coil offer any advantage?

being from n ky i find deep coins in some places then in other places there is clay and that clay wont let anything get too deep what part of ky are you from i am just south of cincy by a few miles

My detecting buddy and I are both from Winchester, straight down I75 from you probably 75 miles.

There may be no coins deeper than 7". One place I detect has a very hard clay base at about 7" and nothing will get through. I do have one area that is full of hot rocks and even the muliple frequency vlf won't work well. There a dual freq. pulse like the minelab GP series or Garret infinium that will cut through it, but not anything that will discrim. well.
