Prospecting with Headhunter PI?

Bobbus

New member
Has anyone ever used a DetectorPro Headhunter Pulse PI machine for gold prospecting? The soil is not too mineralized and I'm looking for larger gold, deep in tailing piles. My vlf GM3 picks up small pieces of wire which can be tedious. I would appreciate any advice you guys may have.
Thanks! Bobbus

The Headhunter PI was not designed to be used as a nugget hunter. One could give it a try, and if the soil is not too mineralized, it would do looking for larger nuggets. Larger I would say about the dia. of a large pea or bean.

When your there, lower the coil to the ground, and make your threshold adjustment rather than making the adjustment in the air.

It will require a slow, deliberate movement.

Hello Mr.Bill,
Bean-sized nuggets or larger is what I am looking for in this old hydraulic mine, so I appreciated your advice. I hear the HHPulse is a good detector, possibly better than the SurfPI Pro, the other model I was considering. I just wanted more depth than possible with a VLF detector.
Thank you once again, Bobbus

Between the HH PI, and the Surfmaster PI Pro, using it for what your describing, the Headhunter PI is the one to use. The Surfmaster PI Pro most likely will not be able to operate in most nugget areas, because it would not be able to handle the bad ground.

The Headhunter PI on the other hand will do a lot better handling the poor ground your going to encounter. If your hunting big open tailing piles the standard 11

Hello Mr. Bill,
Well, I just bought a used-once Headhunter Pulse off eBay for $450!
So, I will be trying it out and let you know the results from the California Motherlode. It is certainly a promising machine and I will use it at the beach on vacation if prospecting with it doesn't work out. Once again, thank you for all your sound advice.
Sincerely yours,
Bobbus

plenty of new, good grade 9 volt alkaline battery's. 6 to 8 hours life with good cells.

Be careful not to allow the headphone cups to rotate 360 deg.on the pivot pins, as it will apply undue pressure on the crossover wire, and break it. The waterproof gland is so tight on the wire, it doesn't allow any give. New versions have corrected this.

There a bit heavy, and if dropped on hard ground,(very easy to do while nugget hunting), it will crack the cups. It will still work, but you won't notice the fine crack, and when you go into the water, you have problems.

Have fun
