Went out this morning to a site I've been working on the last few weeks.
I had gotten about a dozen memorial cents and a few dimes and decided
to try what would have been the front yard when the house was still standing.
I'd already been over the area a few times but this time tried moving
diagonally to my old search pattern. Got a weak, bouncy signal that ranged
between 2-28 and 11-29 at about seven inches on the Explorer II. I dug
a five inch plug and got a nice sounding probe signal in the bottom of the
hole. Found the 1911 Barber dime at six inches. It was at a steep angle
which may have accounted for the weak signal.
Thirty minutes later and twenty feet from the dime I got a 4-30 signal
along the current edge of some bushes covered with wild grape vines.
After playing out the same five-inch plug and probe scenario I uncover
my second Standing Liberty quarter to date. The S mintmark is very
clear but the date is gone. I'll go back a few more times to see what else
was missed.
