I was trying differnt settings with my bh land ranger pro on the floor of my house. One quarter was a 1990 the other a 2015. My detector was picking up the 1990 about two inches farther from the coil and with a lot stronger sound response. The 2015 almost acted like trash. I used the exact same spot on the floor when i did this. Has anyone had a simular experience?

Have you looked into the metal composition of 1990's compared to 2015 quarters. That might be your answer.

I just got some 2015 Q 's they felt junkie. Gonna have to check them out.

Do a default reset and see if you get the same results.

Have not checked the types of metal in them but you are probably correct. I reset the detector each time I turn it on.

Far as i can tell the U.S. 2015 Quarters are 75% copper core and 25% nickel clad same as the 90's Quarters.

You might want to find another U.S. 2015 and see if the result is the same.

Are you sure that 2015 is not a Canadian Quarter? Some of those newer Canadian coins can ring up as junk.

i didn';t check the date but i found a new dime recently that would only read 79 on my t-2, they usually read in the 80's

It is an american quarter and this is going to sound crazy but it seemes to only be the very shiny new 2015 quarters. I got a handful of differnt dated quarters none silver and the only one that sounds like trash are the three 2015s. I dont know...

check with your local coin dealer to see if he knows if there's any difference in the composition of the 2015 and the older quarters

finally found a 2015 quarter today with the t-2. it read 87-88 and they usually are 88-89 but it sounded the same as the others. if you still have the quarter and know someone with a vdi machine have them check it to see if the numbers are off.

I dont own the machine that you have,but modern milled coinage can have added metals to reduce production costs,of course that may not be the case with your test,in the UK and as i also understand it in Canada modern coins can and do have iron cores which if we use with a detector it will give a bad signal as its trying to reject it.

So possibly you are getting bad results with the later coins,also its not advisable to do air testing inside a house as you could be getting problems with EMI,just a suggestion of course.But gut feeling tells me the problem with the 2 coin variations is the metal content in the more modern coin is not such a high quality as the older one.
