Quatro

Trying to get reliability information about the Quatro. Had some negative feedback from some Exp users. They said no depth and large number have had to be sent back for repair. Additional opinions would be greatly appreciated before I decide about purchase.
Thanks

I've had no problems with mine nor have any of the people I know that are using them worldwide. There have been VERY few issues and in talking to Minelab in Las Vegas, they have expedited correcting them as they come in. No detector is 100% free of issues and a few issues can quickly seem like a major problem when you look at posts on the forum. It would be nice if the people that have them and are happy would post their thoughts.
Give the factory a call in Vegas and ask them what the true story is (702-891-8809)
Most of the issues that have surfaced come from seasoned Explorer users and we all have to recognize that the Quattro is not an Explorer . . . . close, but there are differences in how they perform. Some of the "issues" are simply how the Quattro performs and seem to be problems when comparing them to what one is used to. These discussions took place in early 2000 when the Explorer came out and seasoned Sovereign users voiced complaints or pointed out "issues" that turned out to simply be the way the new Explorer functioned.
In most cases, simply reloading the software has addressed the "issues".
I've personnaly been challenged switching from one to the other so recently, I've been putting most of my time on the Quattro and have done well in a wide range of sites and applications.

Hello Don and Andy,
Have been using a Quattro for about a month now and find the following.
A very deep switch on and go machine,i had the opportunity to test directly against Exp. 1 & 2 m/cs
at a recent rally and could find anything the other m./cs could find.
A George first dump issue halfpenny at a measured 12" rang out loud and clear.
The machine is very well balanced as long as you use the arm cuff and used for eight hours straight without any fatigue at all.
The new pinpoint graph feature is first rate and every time when dug was under the part of coil that connects to lower stem.
Metal I.D. is usually spot on but please note that aluminium cans come in at no.37 in the Silver range.
I have noted that there is a slight delay in threshold when switching back from pinpoint to relic but not so the other way.
Also it is worth noting that the battery indicator no matter which type of batteries you use drop to two bars approx twenty five mins after switch on from full charge inc minelabs own high cap nimh set.
To sum up it is a super machine for the money and easy to use.
*Will it beat the Explorer Two?
Well if you know how to use the exp two and can add a deep seeking programme then probably not.
But it was not brought out to beat the explorer but to fill the gap which it does admirably.
Andy if you could tell me when your new book on the Quattro is out pleae?
As i want it for a christmas prezzy!!
I hope this has been of some help.
But would like to see more posts from your neck of the woods as to field testing the Quattro!.
Seasons Greetings & HH from Wales.

Thanks, Andy. Are you going to have a book of tips for this model?
Don

Hi Paul,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am hoping for a FBS machine that is more "turn on and go" than the orginal Exporer that I got when they first came out. Really do not want to do a lot of programming and then wondering if I got it right.
I think that I will have to try the Quatro.
Thanks again,
Don

Don,
The book is coming in from the printer this coming week and should be available from your dealers soon thereafter.
The title is "Mastering the Minelab Quattro MP". Covers all aspects of the detector and has input from many of those that used it during the field trials and recently since it went into full production.

Paul,
Great, concise write-up . . . . .thanks for the feedback.
Actually hate to read the posts from you guys over in Europe and the UK . . . . . we get excited over a 50+ year old coin and you guys yawn over coins that aren't 200 years old.
Andy

Andy,
I think you hit it on the head when you say many Explorer users are having some problems with the Quattro. The reason is they are trying to run it like a Explorer and comparing it to the Explorer.
I am one of them myself as it does seem to be like a Explorer in one way, but it is differnt I am seeing. My obervations is that the tones seem to be the same, but yet the Quattro seem to last a little longer, not much, but enought so you can hear them better. I wonder if this is something Minelab did as it seem to lock on to a target better, but recovers a little slower too. Now this will give the Quattro a little differnt learning curve than we notice with the Explorers which will give us Explorter users a little problem untill we realize it does work differnt then the Explorer.
I was just beginning to see some great things with the Quattro and now the ground is froze solid so I have to wait untill spring.
What I am seeing is that auto sensitivity may not be the best way to run this one. If you have any trashier site you will have to run heavy trash settings. The targets lock on better, but sometimes holds over to the next target which will also sound the same, so you have to recheck a few target for the second time, but the good will lock right on the secand time while trash will notlock in. The depth is great on the Quattro (10 inches on a whatie and locked right on)and switchiing from one mode to the other is so fast, plus setting up your own disc pattern is so easy to do.
I feel we will see a few that are not happy with the Quattro like with all detectors, some dont like them as they dont spend the time to learn it, or maybe dont understand it. I also feel by next summer we will see many using a Quattro and seeing some great finds that others have missed the Quattro will see and lock on to them.
Rick

Rick,
Glad things are looking up with your Quattro . . . . as you said, there is a new learning curve on the Quattro but based on feedback that has been coming in, Minelab did come up with a winner on this model.
