Hi Hunter, I'm interested in any differences b/w the Excal 2 and the prior model. I use the Excal 1000 for underwater detecting, and will soon buy the Excal 2. I've noticed that it has the yellow head phones, whereas I have the blue on my model. It actually belongs to my hubby, but he lets me use it always. So to be fair on him, we'll get another, hence the 'upgrade' to the newer model. Anyway, anything you can tell me about it (what are the head phones like?), would be appreciated. Just PM me if you like. I haven't used the Explorer SE, and you might find your answers on the Explorer Forum. I do have and use the Explorer 2, and it's an excellent machine, except the learning curve is greater than the Quattro. Again, have a chat on the Explorer Forum. I personally prefer to use the Quattro for a few different reasons. If you've never used either detectors, the Quattro is easier to learn, but still takes a considerable amount of time and patience to learn it properly.
As for my Excal, I get annoyed with the blue headphones as they tend to come off my head sometimes, too loose fitting, or the ear pad unclips off the main head piece. I'm wondering if I can send it in to get the head phones replaced with the yellow ones. Would they be better fitting? I suppose I should also hop onto the Excal forum and ask these questions!

I have an Excal with the yellow headphones that were put on as replacements for the blue headphones as I was having similar problems. It was under warranty and Minelab did it for free. The yellow headphones are a marked improvement, with both auditory response and construction. They fit a lot better.
