Quattro or minelab sx

molefink

New member
Hi all
I'm new to this site and fairly new to metal detecting and need some advice.
I am thinking of buying a second hand machine and I need some independant advice.
can anyone tell me how the Quattro or X-TERRA 705 comperes with the SX.
cheers

Hi Molefink.
A lot will have to do with your own preferences. Each detector has it's own fans. I've played around with a mates Quattro a few times, but have owned an XS Explorer (just replaced it with an SE) and I also own an X-Terra 70. Both the Quattro and XS will handle mineralised ground better than the X-terra, especially the wet sand of a beach. Each have different tone systems, which is one of those personal preference things. The Quattro has the slowest recovery speed of the 3 mention, withe the X-terra having the fastest. The XS does pretty good in audio recovery speed but the screen can be painfully slow (as can the Quattro). The Quattro is the only one mentioned, not to have a backlight.
If you tend to always be in a rush, then the X-Terra would be the best choice, otherwise, you'll be best to choose the one that appeals to you the most. Some have complained about the Quattros being slow, but that's a matter for the user to consider.
I can't give you much more info as your point of reference is not clearly stated. All machine are pretty much turn on and go types, but do take time to get to know well. (same as any detector, but simpler than many.)
Mick Evans.

Thanks for the info Mick but I've taken the plunge and bought a second hand xs, just waiting for it to be delivered.
Hopefully it'll be here for a trial run Monday.
Cheers Alan

Good luck with it Alan. You'll love the tones. I also liked the audio 2 tones. It's almost like hearing your targets in 3D! The standard tones do alright as well.
Mick Evans.
