Quattro readout on American $10 gold coin

I didn't even know there was an Indian gold coin. Good luck finding one, but that's certainly interesting, and I'm wondering why your asking that? Just curious? Marc Trainor. ( I have to admit, I'm too out of touch these days on all the different coinage, even in my own country), but you certainly have my attention on this one. )
Hi Marc, very nice to run into you again and I hope all is well for you. Yes we had a run of Indian head gold coins in the early 1900's. I am showing a reading of 35 on my Quattro. I have the Coiltek Platypus coil installed on the Quattro I use. I sure do like gold coins but they are going through the roof now. No particular reason for this question Marc, just wondering. How ya doin' Wirecheif. I knew your were an old timer like me on the forum, (meaning of course you've been on here for a while) 
(God, I'm not gonna get out of that one, now am I), but it's good to hear from you again. forgive me if I sounded to abrupt in that last email, I was just curious. Good to hear from you again cheif. How do you like that platypus coil? and just wondering what size it is? I haven't been doing much detecting lately, but I know I need to get back into it, if nothing else for my sanity, but I miss hearing all the stories and talking to people. Take care, and hope you find one of those "bad boy" indian heads". 
I think if I ever found any gold of any kind I'd freak out for sure. Marc Trainor.

Marc Trainor.Hi Marc, Yes it is very nice to hear from you and don't worry about the old timer thing. I will be 51 in a few days and I feel like 71. Marc the Platypus is about 12x81/2 inches. I really like it and having an elliptical shape it is a bit easier to get it in tight spots. Boy is it sensitive too. It seems to work very well with the Quattro. I was just wanting to know if anyone has a 10.00 Indian Head gold coin to see what they get for a reading on their Quattro. Actually I have a 1908 "No Motto" from the Philidelphia Mint. The mintage is 33,500 coins. I'm sure some were lost and some got melted down so It is a pretty rare coin.
I see from time to time on some of the Aussie forums that they are getting tired of Minelab's higher pricing to their own countrymen. I don't blame them at all. I believe that we are about to see a price increase here in the U.S. on Minelab detectors. Don't put that in stone but being a Minelab dealer myself that is what I was told. Ok Marc I hope you are able to get out and do some detecting soon. So God Bless ya my friend and I will be around.

I see from time to time on some of the Aussie forums that they are getting tired of Minelab's higher pricing to their own countrymen. I don't blame them at all. John, I've got you beat---I'm 58 years old and feel 91 this week, but maybe if I got my "you know what" out there in the detector field, I could drop that number down to 81 or maybe 61, if I really tried.:| That Playtipus coil, really sounds great. I like the idea that it's a bit smaller than the 15" WOK, that I'm considering, but has that eliptical shape. That seems to make a lot of sense, not only to get into some tight spots, but in a sense, it might even cover more ground per sweep than a strictly round coil. I'm not sure about that, but in theory, it might. At any rate, sounds like a great coil.
As far as the gold coin, I'm not up on the No Motto, but wondering if that's an indian head also, or some other kind of gold coin. I used to collect coins, when I was in my teens, avidly, and I loved it. That's probably why I got into metal detecting, because you can't find those old coins any more in your change, (hardly ever), and it's sure fun to try and find lost, burried ones. I hope you can get a reading from someone on the $10.00 piece. You know this gold is so funny, because I've "read" several friends, gold rings, necklaces, nuggets, etc, with my Quatro, and got different numbers on most of them anywhere form a 7 to a 19 on a friends mixed gold ring. I guess the "gold gods" aren't gonna let us find this stuff without really "working" for it. Marc.

Wirecheif, this is kind of an "adjunct" to my last reply, but I have to admit, I'm appalled at the prices that Australians are paying for a detector that is made or at least "based" in their own country. What's up with that???? I don't understand that, but I'm certainly concerned that our prices here might go up too, in the states, for Minelab products. I'd love to get an Explorer and an Excallibur, but I just don't have the bucks yet, and until I "get serious enough" about going out more, I'd probably be a fool to buy one now anyway. Take care. Well, I'm still looking for the elusive gold sovereign. I gotta be close now, after all these years detecting in the right spots I'm sure, to find one! As for what us Aussies pay for a detector here, it is ridiculous, almost 100% mark up if not more. And we make 'em here! How's that for logic? Hey Marc, I reckon if I was to put an Excalibur in your hands, you'd have a ball, seeing you like the water so much! Golden

You know I'm eating "crow", and can only hope and pray that I might make some kind of a "comeback" from my earlier "serious beach years", where I "actually got wet, once and a while". :|
(by the way, I think I'm "all wet", on this reply, but it's sure fun. Yea, folks, Golden, knows what I used to be like when I was about 15 years old and in good health and still had some ambition in my life. (only because I told her) but it's true...... I'm lucky if I even get to the beach with my clothes on once or twice a month, and even get my feet wet with my Quatro in my hand. That's pretty weak, since I grew up living near the beach, so that's what "that's" all about. 
But, I still love detecting, and talking to you folks, and trying to have a little fun with all this stuff. Hope I haven't bored anyone too much. Marc Traijnor.

I think your right, but I'd rather be "obsessed" with treasure hunting, than with some other things I can think of, like something that comes in a bottle and says Miller on the label. I think you know where I'm coming from, but I'm cutting back and I actually took my detector to work with me yesterday, and drooled as I drove by some of the cool areas I could hunt, but I was so darn busy, I couldn't have stopped if I wanted too. Well, at least it's a start. :|
