Quattro Sensitivity while Relic Hunting

Doug[Manila]

Hi All, haven't used my Quattro for sometime :-(
HOW LOW A SENSITIVITY have you set your Quattro in really mineralized or trashy sites? Not talking beach but in land relic hunting. And what kind of depth did you still get on it? Know the answer would differ by location but just wanted to see where everyone has theirs set. Anyone get good relic hunting results leaving the sens in Auto?

In some of my areas, sens at 15-18 makes the Q too sensitive and it IDs too many small targets on every sweep. I had to lower sens to 9 to make it usable. (all metal or relic mode, sens 9-12, X5 or stock coil, sunray probe, regular noise cancel)

Adjusting your sensitivity is a matter of personal preference and performance. Some feel that if you reduce your sensitivity too low, you may miss targets. I believe this is where some detectorists err in running it too high for fear of losing the deeper targets. Ground conditions often dictate how it should be set to get the best stablility and performance. And what may work for one may not for another person. In the ground I detect in, the ground conditions can change quite drastically. For example, I live in 'gold' country, with red, black, blue clay and dirt. Then we have rocky ground or smooth clean looking soil that looks like top soil. So I always adjust my sensitivity accordingly. Then there's the trash. Around the old building sites, and down the hillside from them, it's pretty condensed. So I totally rely on sounds to determine if something is worth digging. But this is using All Metal, no discrim. What I have found that works for me is this: High Trash setting, sensitivity of 14 in maual, occasionally dropping it to 12 or 10, dependant on ground conditions, noise cancel everytime I change the sensitivity, or every 30 or so min, to ensure stability and smooth running. But as I say, this works for me, yet another detectorist may differ.
Cheers Angela:)
