is just no where clean of coins and garbage or does this just go crazy if its not set up perfectly? need help getting max depth and possiblly setting up a custom setting

hello fisher2, Iv'e had mine for about 2 years now. I'm sorry to say that if u have trashy areas parks, old homesites etc. u will not be too happy with the quattro. the machine is way to slow on any settings in trash areas. the only reason I keep mine is that they are a great beach machine & i happen to live very close to several beaches in ca. other wise i would be tying to sue whoever sold me this machine lol. serious u can try to lower the sensetivity ( very low ) but u loose out on all the good deep stuff. a lot of people will tell u that i'ts a great machine. perhaps as to not admit getting burned for a $ 1000 dollars lol . i dont mind ( thank god for beaches) but that is why quattro's were short lived & replaced by the safari ( faster processor) I will get hell for posting this but the truth hurts. good luck & have fun

i'l be mostly using mine in corn fields for old stuff but i was in a park to test it out lol learned quick its really slowi may try later to trade it and then some gold/silver for the safari but

PS.... fisher2 have u read, mastering the quattro by Andy Sabisch ? if u own the quattro then u have to own this book. hard to explain but the book is better than the machine lol .

good luck

Hey diggetdawg, I sure am glad you didn't sugar coat anything you said. The truth does sometimes hurt, but the truth is still the truth. I have the safari and its a good machine, but if theres a lot of trash it can get noisy. I have made a couple of custom programs that help combat this while still being able to find the goodies. Andy's book is a must read if you have the quattro or the safari. Ron

If you use the high trash setting and slow down the sweep speed on the Quattro it will hunt a trashy area just as good as any other detetor out there.I have had a Quatto for sometme now and
can find just as much with it in a trashy area as I can with my EXll or F75.You have to go slow and listen to it closely because it will find the good stuff in trashy areas.

thanks all does anyone know a vdi chart for the gold and silver numbers? id love to make a beach setting for just those

hello gary, on the quattro I cannot go any slower or turn down the sensetivity any less. when the area is trashed my quattro sounds like it has been tuned off. the nulling is so bad as I have posted before that I can put a quarter on the ground and go directly over it & it will miss it. if I have to turn the sensetivity down to the point where it will miss anything deeper than an inch or two then i tend to think that I,m missing the better targets. high trash setting is just a lot noisier but not much better. the quattro is just a very slow machine. on the other hand my friends ace 250 & his sons $99 special from big five seem to breeze through this stuff while I have to hunt so slow ( to the point of boredom) with my $ 1000 machine it's almost embarrasing. but then I get to show off on the beach to both of them. no matter how anybody feels about their quattro I'm sure i could have done better for the price. I'm just not impressed with this machine. it's hard to listen to something that is not giving any sounds.

good luck all, just my opinion, maybe it's just my machine.

What helps on the quattro is a smaller coil. I got the 8inch fbs and its better for parks. Now it finds more goodies with the smaller coil and is a bit lighter. It usually works pretty well at parks and beaches . I usually set it on auto coin and jewlry mode. The smaller minelab 8inch fbs is a must for this machine at parks.

What Trackerman said is right on! I go to my 5" Sunray Excellerator, and it is killer in trashy areas. I still pull coins over 8" down with it.
The more trashy the area the more experience will win out. That is where the learning curve gets steeper. I almost never use the high trash setting with mine, it just seems to move the numbers everywhere and make IDs really tough.
Good Luck,
Mark
