Question about batteries

Seems to be some dispute as to what batteries are best to use in the Metal Detector: Rechargeable or your
standard batteries. Some people have said they machines don't work as well with rechargeable. To me a
battery is a battery is a battery. Pleas shed some light on this for me.

All I use is rechargeable. I have bought 2 sets since I bought the Ace in May 2006. I carry a set of regular batteries in the field for spares. But good rechargeable, not junk and they will last.
Let me recap. 2 sets in 2 years. Now that is a lot of money saved.

I use them all - HD's, alkaline and rechargeable. They each have their pros and cons, but these are more about the battery characteristics and the manner in which they are employed.
Each type of battery does the same thing: deliver electrical power to your instrument, through chemical action.

As long as the required amount of voltage and current is delivered to the circuits, the instrument will work and know little else.

In the end, it boils down to which you like better.

Steve is correct. A decent set of rechargeables is the ticket. I did not take this advice until this year. So far I have hunted almost 400 hours on one set of batteries and I'm still using them. Even with the cost of the charger, because this is still my first set, I figure I have saved at least 50 percent plus the trips to the store. I use Energizer 2500 mAh AAs and the quick charger. It came with a car adapter too. Total cost for 8 batteries and charger was 40 bucks. Obviously next set I will not have to replace the charger.

My 2500 works fine with either type of battery. Never use cheap batteries which I tried because I had some laying around last year. They died in the middle of a hunt after only 3-4 hours.

I use quality 2900mAh AA rechargeable batteries never have any probs

Rechargeables work just fine and last longer than alkalines. I use them in all my machines.

Cost, cost cost. They all work fine. It would be quite rare that a detector may have an problem with a rechargeable. It would only occur when using 9 volt batteries as well. I've been using the same set of batteries for the last 3 years and they are still going strong. I guess I'll chuck 'em out when they look like they had had their day. That may be a few years off yet. They have done well over 500 hours so far.

Yeah most will last several years before needing replaced. I have several sets and they have been going strong for a couple of years now.
