Question about depth?

I have a new xp coming soon and would like your input. If the settings are right "which I know nothing about yet" how deep will it go to find say a coffee can full of coins. This would not be in highly mineralized soil, just about normal soil?
Really looking forward to your input. This forum is the main reason I ordered a Deus. Thanks

Well it would depend.

If the coffe can is buried up right with a plastic lid and is full of coins--- deep,,,probably 14-15"--- all metal a little deeper.

Don't worry about Deus depth.

Squirrel, it will go deeper than that, don't know how deep on a coffee can of coins but on a horse shoe I dug about 19" before I could see it. So it was a little deeper than that

Tell me where you think it might be and I'll go look and tell you how deep it was :)
All kidding aside the Deus will easily go to the 15" range and maybe more on something as large as a #10 coffee can

I guess when I get it just start burying things at different depths and figure it out.
I am thinking in pretty good conditions on a large object it should go down about 19 to 30 inches. Hoping anyway.

Thanks for your help. Mine should be here this week. Can't wait to try it out. Been reading on YouTube, is relic mode the best and deepest way to go?

Sadly none of the Stock programs are optimized for depth or the soils here in the US
but I buried a dime in the yard and modified the Relic program to hit it solidly with no
problem... keep in mind the Relic Program is at TX3 by default and this will reduce battery life
considerably, I used TX2 and had no problem hitting that dime with room to spare...
If you have ANDY'S book there are a couple good programs in it to start with too...
You can't go wrong it's a great machine...

I just received mine yesterday. It was dark so just air tested it, and wow. On a bullet that is complete, it was hitting it 18 inches. I almost passed out. A 12 ounce Coke can at about 25 to 28 inches. Not sure because my measuring stick only goes to 18 inches. I was impressed.

My first time relic hunting using Andy's program, I hit some 16" Minnie balls in good ground. The few changes he suggests transform the Deus. Until I used one set up right I was unimpressed, glad I gave it another try, now it's my favorite detector since the Mark One in the 80s and I had them all, LOL
The other day I took my Nautilus 2ba with 15" coil for a spin and missed my Deus, it goes deeper than that setup, never thought I would ever say that

This question is rather absurd and just not answerable...
It would ultimately depend on the soil, the coil, any trash that might be near
or above and the skill to read what would be an iffy tone considering
your mixing a large tin can and a lot silver....
I'd bet $100 that 98 out of 100 guys would walk right past it for the iron sound alone!
Even if it was a mixed signal...
there are way too many variables to give you a reasonable answer....

A sobering, sensible reply CO.

May I add, nobody mentioned the best frequency for the task...?

I suggest that you use the lowest available.....Matt.

I went out and buried 2.00 worth of pennies at 17 inches. Covered it up and the Deus could get it easily. I then buried 4 silver dollars at 19 inches and I had to play with it for one hour to get the Deus to pick it up but I did. How hard is that guys. Y'all act like somebody is going to cut your head off if you give an honest opinion. I know that highly mineralized ground and you cannot get as much depth and in lower conductive soil it goes deeper. All I was wanting to know was how some of you do it, what settings that you use, etc.
Would have loved to know how deep you can get things in your test garden and so on.

Sounds pretty hard to me. Dig a hole 17 inches and then bury 200 pennies. Then bury 4 silver dollars 19 inches and spend an hour trying to get a detector to find them. I hope you put them in some type of container so the value wouldn't be diminished.

Bravo! Now that is dedicated learning! You are sure to cut your learning curve in half or even more by using this and similar practices! I once found two Morgans, two mercs, a V nickel and two wheat pennies in one hole (coin purse) so tests like yours are not unrealistic--although this dig was much shallower at 5-6 inches. My number one tip for all of us is that we will constantly be surprised by what's in the hole, so don't talk yourself out of digging. I've found that coin spills with the Deus give misleading signals; last fall I found a silver coin spill containing a walking half, SLQ and a merc....the Deus read the signal as a clad quarter so keep your hopes up when you dig and always be on the lookout for another coin in the hole because there often is. Thanks for posting James.

Higher reactivity means better in trash, lower more depth, always lower silencer to minus 1

I think most programs have audio set so deep targets are softer, this may help you tell if it's deep or shallow?

Clear open, non mineralized ground I run reactivity as low as zero, Ilike 11.7 but silver coins may do better at 4 or 8 kHz

Time and patience along with help on here and you should love the Deus.

I like Andys book, explains what features mean and do.

I really like the instruction videos that Gary does, watch them over and over, happy hunting

Thanks guys, really. I was only looking for a little help. I am totally new to this detector. Was hoping some people with more experience would step in and say what works well for them. In there area. It's clear I am not a coin hunter. I have been looking for a large cache for about 2 years, on and off OK. Just when I have time. Not every day. If anyone wants to say something about what settings and how they use it with the deus, I am all ears. But I will get there sooner or later.

That's exactly what I do.....

I'm new to FL and have buried targets at the beach and in the
parks to get a feel for the soil.... way different from CO, AZ,
or MO where I've done a lot more hunting..

I carry a small gold ring and a silver dime everywhere
and will bury them in a new site if I've been tweaking much
or the sils are different
Best way to learn your machine is to use it over known
targets and understand how the settings effect it

Good job!
