QUESTION ABOUT P.I. DETECTORS

CLARK

New member
CAN PI DET. FIND LOW CONDUCTORS AND HIGH ONES AT THE SAME TIME---OR DO YOU NEED TO ADJUST THE DET. SEPERATELY FOR EACH-- IF SO, WILL IT GET THEM BOTH AT THE SAME DEPTH???

THANKS

Hi Clark,

Your questions are good ones that are simple yet complex.

Eric is better qualified to answer these questions thoroughly, but I will try to give you and answer.

Now, in response to your question of whether you can find high and low conductors at the same time, the answer to this depends upon the delay setting, meaning just how long after the pulse stops do you take your sample. If the delay is short, then yes, you can detect both low and high conductors. So, with a short delay you can detect gold and silver as an example. Increase the delay significantly and gold will reduce in signal strength or even become impossible to detect, while silver objects will still cause a strong signal.

As for the depth of detection, the tendency is to be able to detect low conductive objects deeper than high conductive ones because of the pulse length. Low conductive objects do not need a long pulse length to be detected at maximum depth, but high conductive objects do. So, when most PI's only have a relatively short pulse length, the ability to detect low conductive objects is greater than the ability to detect high conductive targets.

Increasing the pulse length will increase the depth of detection of higher conductive objects such as silver and copper objects. So, if you are wanting to mainly detect silver and copper objects, then one needs to be able to increase the pulse length significantly.

I hope this answers your questions.

I AM THINKING ABOUT GETTING A PI DETECTOR BUT CAN'T AFFORD THE HIGHER PRICED ONES--I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE GARRETT INFINIUM DET.BUT REALLY DON'T KNOW ANYONE THAT HAS ONE OR A DEALER THAT IS NEAR ENOUGH TO GET A HANDS-ON DEMO OF IT--WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE INFINIUM FOR BOTH GOLD HUNTING AND ALSO FOR RELICS AND COINS???--CAN THE PULSE BE ADJUSTED FOR BOTH LOW AND HIGH TARGETS???

THANKS AGAIN
CLARK
