Question about searching "Hoard" of Coins.

marsias

New member
Hello.

I need some advice from Guys the had in the past, dig a Hoard of coins.

I wont to go next week to search for hoard of coins(gold/silver/copper).

My questions are :

1. What was you EXII settings(if any "special" setting must be extra adjust to detecting of this kind of target !).
>>My Area has very low trash. I dont know how deep are the Hoard !

2. What was the Screen/audio responses in your Hoard???

3. What was the decision to dig or not ??? (I dont wont to dig everything and avoid any hoard of trash!!).

for any help / advice thanks in advantage!!!

marsias,

There are no special settings to use. If you think it is deep use a bigger coil like the WOT. If deeper than a couple of feet the explorer is probably not the right detector to use. The problem, at least in the states, is that most "hoards" are buried in a steel container or a glass container with a metal lid. You will generally detect the steel instead of the coins and thus must dig almost every signal. I know of a couple farm places that supposedly have buried stashes from the depression, but also have iron trash every where. It could take the rest of my life to dig it all while looking for the cache.

If it is ancient and not likely to be in a ferrous container dig everything big and non-ferrous.

You have your work cut out for you, nothing to adjust on the explorer except the sensitivity.

Use different size Coils and you just gotta dig everything.....The most recent hoard I was after I started to snuff it out with a 5" Coil (This is a very trashy site), Anyway let your research and imagination roll !! Be determined !! My hoard was spread out over a fairly small area.........Many Old Coins in the sign of a cross !!!! .......I figured the hoard was spread out by farming equipment or something ... or was it ????? Reflecting on this, I now believe it may not have been a cross....but maybe an X ....to Mark the Spot. So, I will be back there, when the conditions are right (overgrown area). Good Luck !!!!!!!!!
