question about the Sunray Intruder S-8 searchcoil vs the stock Minelab Tornado 10" coil.

I have been primarily using my Sunray Intruder S-8 searchcoil for all my inland hunting. I have noticed with the S-8 I can run the manual sensitivity at higher settings with smooth operation. I can not get the same results with the stock 10" tornado coil. Anyone else notice this? What are your opinions of the S-8 vs the stock Minelab Sovereign GT 10" Tornado coil.
thanks in advance
Take care
HH

What you are experiencing is quite common with the Sovereign. I have never used the S-8 but I do have the S-12. Same results. And it has been reported on here that Sovereign Users can run SEF coils a whole lot hotter than the stock coil.

I also you use the S-8 as my primary coil for the same reason. I actually think that in my bad ground and on my nasty beaches I get better depth with the S-8 than with the stock 10 inch. I've never cared for large coils in my ground but after reading Critter's testing with the 10X12 SEF I'm going to give it a try. Even if I can only get the same depth as the S-8 I will still be happy to have the extra coverage and stability when beach hunting.

Jason you should be making your decision on which to use by results your getting, not by where a knob is set on the various coils. They are both good coils and just because one can be set at a higher sens setting doesnt mean thats the one you should be using.

The SEF is made by Detech and is the same coil in the US that it is in the UK. It's made over there some where. In the US KellyCo is the only dealer of it, and over there I think the only dealer is Joann Detectors (The UK version of KellyCo). There are, however, some sources on Ebay (in the UK I think) selling these coils new, or at least the round Excelerator coils. Not sure where they are getting them because I didn't think there were any other dealers other than these two? The way I hear it KellyCo contracted with them to design and produce a great coil, and I think they said it was 3 years to accomplish.

Jason,I have used both the S-8 and the 10 inch Tornado.I think the 10 inch Tornado is much deeper and has a better scan. The little Tornado 800 coil is also deeper and gives better separation for me than the S-8.This is what I found for my area.
