Question for Andy..

Jeff in Pa

Well-known member
I want you opinion on tones to use. I am very proficient with the Explorers and most Recently the Etrac. All of the FBS machines are very good but I figure you may know a thing or two about them:please: so I will ask while I am coming from the Etrac, what would you suggest or use? Tones or Full tones?

I have tried both and I feel that until I get to be very proficient I need to settle on one or the other for a while. After I am very comfortable with the Deus then I can try to learn the other.

I prefer to have the high sounds for silver.

So if I were to be your student what would you suggest?

Oh and just in case any of you don't know.. Andy is what I would consider a Genius with the FBS machines.

The FULL TONES option on the Deus in V3.0+ was intedned to emmulate the response one can get from the FBS detectors as well as the White's high-end units. What some people have said coming from these units is that the sound is simply not the same . . . it is more clipped or less "fluid" whcih is what the Minelab / Whites units have. I know when I started using the FULL TONES option during the V3.0 development phase, I was initially not wowed with how it performed. I was used to the FBS response - after putting just a few hours on them over the years :) - but with any detector, you need to put some time on it to see how the features actually work and if you can adapt to them.

Well, months later, I will say that I do use the FULL TONES option in certain applications but the flexibility of adjusting tones and assigning them to specific ranges has been more of what I use when coin hunting, especially in search of older targets.

Since you have no adjustment in terms of the tone range with FULL TONES, you might find the MULTI TONE option to be a better option to cut your teeth on and after you get comfortable with the way the Deus hits those targets other machines miss, then create an identical program with the TONES option beng the only difference - save it in a slot next to your preferred program and when you get a signal, toggle between the two and see which response you prefer or if one hits the type of targets you are searching for better than the other. That is the beauty of the Deus - changes can be checked real time making it easier to see what the impact of even small changes are.

Let me know if this helps

Andy

Thank you Andy for your suggestions,

The Full tones are nice but just as you said, I too just can't hear the suttle differences like I can the FBS machines. When I use multi tones on the Deus I do notice that if the sound is very short or long or slightly clipped I can better understand what is under the coil. I know that after using the Deus for the 2 dozen or so hours that I have, this spring is going to be my best yet!

The separation is just absolutely amazing!

The 11" coil is going to be such a bonus and I will also be able to teach either or both of my boys with the 9" coil.

I will stick with multi tones till I am completely schooled with them and then give Full tones a try.

Again, Thank you very much for your response
