Question for David@dixiedetectors or anyone

LD in KS

After using my xs-pro with the stock control for awhile, I decided to use my control box that you modified for me. I'm using a recalabrated 180 meter by Wildherre. Using the stock 10" coil. I'm not sure how to set up the machine now. If I remember correctly now when I'm in "Disc" mode it is silent. Correct? Also, with the mods isn't it supposed to go deeper now?
Also, now without the threshold hum, how do you detect the soft, deep targets? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

With the Dixie mod you use the Sovereign the same. Now when you set it up to use just set you volume at max, the disc and the notch all the way counterclockwise so it is off. Flip the toggle switch to all metal pinpoint and set the threshold for a slight hum, now when you switch to the disc the threshold will be silent if you set it right while in the all metal mode to a slight hum.
With the Dixie mods I find David sets the tones higher, so this may take you a little to get used to if you been using a stock Sovereign.
You still will dig the same ones as you did before as the only different now will be you wont have a threshold and the tones may be higher than before. I find with the silent search i had a hard time telling when it was nulling too much and had to slow down my swing of the detector. If you do you can turn up the threshold a bit while in the disc mode and you will hear the threshold, but if you go to pinpoint it may be too loud for you and have to turn it down a bit.

I hope this has helped you.

Rick,
Thanks for the answers. It sounds like you aren't a big fan of this mod.
if I turn up the threshold, isn't that defeating the idea of the mod.?
if I was going to get another coil for trashy parks what would you suggest? If I get a smaller coil, will I lose depth?
Thanks,
Leon

You will see that many do like the Mods David does and one is the silent search and the tones set higher plus others I don't know about. To me the tones are too high for my hearing and I like a threshold myself so I know if I am going too fast or not by the nulling. This is what I got used to and what I like. The New GT has that option with a toggle switch to have silent search or not and I have found area where the silent search is good too like area where target are far and few and you can go faster. With Davids mods if you run into an area where you want a threshold you can just turn up the threshold a bit, but when you go to all metal it maybe too much.
On coils a smaller one would be great to have like a 8 inch Sun Ray coil, or if you could find a older 8 inch coinsearch were good too. The S-8 of Sun Rays is a great coil and has a lot of depth to it too, but to me you hear more signals and may have to go a little slower to hear the good signals next to iron, with the stock coil you just hear the null, but the S-8 you will hear the good target close to it if you go slow enough. In some cases you will even see targets deeper with the S-8 over the stock coil too. The 5 inch coil is for extreme trash and most my areas I can just use the S-8 and pick out the good from the bad, so I sold my S-5 being it wasn't used much.
