question for Eric

Hi Eric,
I know you have stated before that you use a 555 to generate the +5Volts in your detectors. Is there a better diode to use than a 1N4148 for that purpose? Also is there a problem with using the same 555 to generate the timing for pulsing the 4017? Thanks for any help and welcome back,
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles,
If you want a diode that has less volt drop than the 1N4148, use a Shottky type. I use the BAT85. You can use the same timer to clock the 4017. I do this in the Beachscan and also the CS6PI. Also use a low dropout regulator for the +5V such as LM2950.
Eric.
