Question for Eric

Hello Eric, my question is how good is the Aquastar II compared to the Excalibur since is also an expensive detector. I also want to know more general information about how the Aquastar II works and what kind of experiences or good findings people have had in the water using this detector.
Thanks

Hi Miguel,
Hard for me to answer the first question as I have never used an Excalibur. From what I have heard from others, the Aquastar will go generally deeper, particularly on small gold items. However, there is no direct iron discrimination as on the Excalibur, if you are working in very trashy areas. Perhaps someone who has used both machines will give an answer.
Most of the general information on the Aquastar is on the Surfscanner website.
Eric.

I do use both the Excalibur and the Aquastar. I only use the Excalibur in areas where there is a lot of iron and hot rocks. Or when I am lazy and do not wish to dig deep targets. I consider any target less then 8 inch deep to be surface targets. The Excalibur is designed mainly to find coins. While it will find gold. It will not get the depth on gold that the Aquastar will. The Aquastar is designed to find deep gold. I do not wish to find coins, I only want the gold and platinum. Therefore, I like to hunt behind other hunters so that they have removed the fresh drop targets. So that I can listen for the real deep targets where the old gold items are. Another machine that you should consider is the Goldquest Aquasearch also designed by Eric.

I want to thank you Erik and Terry for both of your comments on what I should consider when deciding to buy the Aquastar or Goldquest. I think the Aquastar is an excellent machine especially when you say that you can go after the other hunters have walked the beaches and cleraed it out of clad and trash then you can find the good stuff (gold). I now have a much better idea on which of the two detectors I should buy.
Thanks again
