mr. bill what is the diffence in the beachscan mk2 and a goldquest ss if the beach scan 2 has and upgraded to a SAT knob wouldnt it be the same thing as the goldquest ss or is the circuit better in the goldquest jest another curios question ive had people emaoil me about this so i would like to give the correct answer im assuming its the same detector jest upgraded with a SAT but i dont know whatcathink larry ca

Hi Larry,
Perhaps I can step in and answer this, as I manufacture them.
The basic electronics of the two machines is the same. They use the same circuit board. The Goldquest has a SAT control fitted as standard. However, the Goldquest is speeded up, in that the minimum delay is 10uS, instead of 15uS. The values of the timing components are therefore different, and there is a preset adjustment (manufacturer and service adjustment only) for the coil damping, which is more critical.
The search coil windings are different and the shielding is done in a more consistent way. A Beachscan coil will not work on a Goldquest unless the frequency/pulse delay is adjusted for 15uS.
These changes were made, including the name change, to give the detector a wider application than just beach hunting.
Eric,

Hi again Larry,
As soon as I can find my 8in coil winding jig, I will make some. Haven't made any 8in coils for a while and it has mysteriously disappeared. If it doen't turn up by the end of the week, I will make a new one.
Eric.

thanks eric for the info so would a 8 inch coil be more sesitive to smaller items but wouldnt go as deep i think the 8 inch might work betterin the surf water applications aka easyer to move around in the water
