Question for those using an X-1 probe - maybe someone can clarify something...

Pete in MI

New member
(didn't get instructions with the used probe so have been guessing what to do).

When using it in the hole to find an item should I just flip the switch to probe and pretend I have a mini-mini coil or do I flip it to probe then hit the pinpoint button on the EX2?

Or doesn't it matter? Because both should pinpoint a target seeing as it is a mini-mini coil so to speak searching the hole?

At first was overcome by all the sounds the EX2 was making...then I realized I had to flip the X-1 switch to coil instead of probe  duh.

Was in digital screen and trying to (mentally) determine what was a keeper signal...lots of rusting stuff buried out at the ghost town.
Since all I found was a '67 dime I was lacking on good reference point. All those high tones turned out to be aluminum items. Guess I better get out my test strips of coins and do some practicing.

Had a lot of fluctuating numbers in a small area so guessing I need to go even slower and use a smaller coil to pick out the goodies from the trash and rusted items.

Almost feel I should be asking these questions on a bunch of other forums but I know you guys so can trust your answers - and know you guys will answer. (Not being 'known' on the other forums I probably wouldn't even get any answers.)

Thanks for the help Brothers...if you prefer you can PM or email me:
coinshooter@owly.net with your responses.

same ones for the DX-1, bot it used wit no instructions.
I can tell ya this Pete 'bout the X-1..i used it on an EX-II and if remeber correctly, all i had to do was flip to probe and have at it.Of course, it wasn't my rig and i don't know what program the EX was in nor do i know how the probe was setup(?).But it sure worked like a charm and made me trade in my pinpointer for a probe post haste.

either way. Many times I will just flip on probe and scan the hole after removing a plug. If I here the good tone again...I then hit the pinpoint and the probe pinpoints it exactly...and I mean exactly.
Remember to slow way dooowwwnnnn with the detector. It's like no other detector I've ever used. You really have to creep.
