question for ya John - Edmonton

can the sea hunter ll hunt real deep ring/coin sized targets in the salt water I'm currently using a BBS vlr detector & getting old coins & rings down to about 7-8 inch & i was wondering if the Garrett can get deeper as i like to get the older items I'm missing.
also is the depth comparable to the infinium.

Hi lazyaussie,
John in Edmonton, lives in the prairies, no ocean for 800miles. Maybe I could give you some insight on ocean hunting as I live by the Pacific Ocean.
Your depth will vary on the type of salt ocean beach. On white sand such as in Florida, even a TR machine will give you superb depth, in fact some guys use modded TRs with great depth. VLF machines work well there too with excellent depth, equal or sometimes better than the PI machines.
When it comes down to the blacksand magnetite beaches on the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. and Canada (I am Canadian) things are different. This is where the PI machines shine and the TR machines are useless. VLF machines are satisfactory for depth. The best machines to use are the PI machines with manual ground balance capabilities, like the Infinium among others.
The Seahunter won't match the Infinium here as the Seahunter has no manual ground balance, but give me a PI machine any day over a TR or a VLF for heavy mineralized salt beaches.
I don't know how mineralized the beaches are down under. Aussie soil is heavily mineralized and troubles most VLF detectors.

thanks pennyfinder yeah the grounds real hot over here. I've seen a cheep one for sale & am doing some research on them, I've been looking to get a PI unit for a wile i was hoping for a infinium or dual field but was thinking if the sea hunter ll was a good unit with smiler depth I'd get it instead.
again thanks for the help. I'm going to ask the same question on the beach hunting forum to see if any other sea hunters will chime in.

Yes, the Sea Hunter Mark II does get good depth in salt water. It Will even go deeper, if you use the mono 10 x 14 elliptical. I know the large coils are in high demands for the Infinium. The Infinioum will probably get more depth then the Mark II, as has to be ground balanced for local conditions. But then you pay more too. A lot of guys have done well with the Mark II. I enjoyed mine when I had it. It bangs hard on coin sized objects.

Pleasure is mine there lazyaussie. Just remember when you get opinions of the best beach detector from the other beach hunters, ask which part of the world they are and what colour the beach sand is.(how mineralized)

It is said the Importer/Distributor provides a service, perhaps they can give you a contact of an Infinium LS and Sea-Hunter user in Vic. They got my phone no.
Both the user manuals and instructional video's are available on line they are worth a look before decision time.

Sea looked calm in the early hours after sunup, just perfect for a morning swim and some definitely made the best of it.
Read the signs and know the rules.
This became a red flag area at 8,30 am to midday, had to wait a few hours before my water hunt.
As always be polite, let the tourists enter first.
Local wildlife (and I) do not care about daylight saving and such; feeding time is whenever.

feeding time they reckon the crocs are breading up a storm in the NT, sharks are a worry but crocs are killers i think if i saw one swimmin past me on the beach i'd hang up the water detectors for life .
