Question: Has anyone experienced having to lower sens on an explorer and needing to send it for service?

I have an explorer 2. I have had a hell of a time with it over the last month or two and I have owned it for 2 years. Suffice it to say, I havent been going out much.
When on the coil, it just doesnt feel the same. Cant put my finger on it but I seem to need to lower the sens a lot more than before. The probe works fine. I am thinking that the X-1 probe switch or box may have succumbed to dirt or the elements. I'm not sure but I cant figure out what else could be wrong with it.
Is it possible I need to send the explorer in for service?
If you have any advice, I'd like to hear it.

I had a similar problem, couldn't run the my 10.5 coil at any apprecieable sensitivity without it becoming very erratic. At first I thought it was the location where I was (under power lines) but later discovered that that coil had an intermittant coil connection. It had worn through where the cord clamp was connected. I cut of a bit of the coil cord and resoldered on the plug and have been good ever since.
Try a different coil and try plugging in before the x-1 box.

I have heard of problems with the X-1 probe, of course coil could be bad or have a bad solder connection..Personally would take off the probe and try it, use your buddies coil on it and you may isolate the problem eliminating one at a time.Call to Minelab U.S.A. wouldn't hurt either...
